Hi friends.

I'm moving to the Atlanta area soon and research shows me that there are several clubs and many rinks in the area. I'm a former child skater and want to get back into skating when I move. I've lived at the beach for 6.5 years and there are no year-round rinks within 100 miles - not a surprise, I suppose. I miss skating so much and I'm excited about potentially getting back into it, especially for the fitness side of it. I don't know that I'd necessarily be interested in competing or testing, but hey .. never say never.

Are there any communities of adult skaters in the area? Or specific clubs that are adult-friendly vs. others? Thanks for the info! :)

I don't know the specifics of the adult skating scene down in Atlanta but I do know that there is a group there which organizes an annual social ice dance weekend.  The past year (2016) that event was held at the The Cooler in Alpharetta, Georgia.  You can get more info about this event and perhaps connect with the locals via IDOL (Ice Dancers On-Line).  IDOL has both a yahoo group and a Face Book page.  PM me for the organizer's email address.

I don't know specifics, but both the Georgia FSC and Atlanta FSC are adult friendly. I have (adult skating) friends that represent both clubs.

Thank you both so much for the info! I'm excited to start skating again.

The Peach Classic (an adult comp) I believe takes place in Atlanta as well. There's also a yearly ice dance weekend at one of the rinks. :)
