Wow.  Makes you wonder how pervasive that was back then.

Makes you wonder how pervasive it still is.

Really folks.   Never trust the Government.  Never trust your organising body.  Never even trust your club.   They will ALL sacrifice you for the glory (or profit) of their empires.

It all comes down to this nasty fact of human nature:  Any relationship which doesn't have mutual "walk-away-ability", WILL be gamed by the stronger party.    So, always maintain your walk-away-ability,  both emotionally and practically.

It's true that life is all about swimming with the sharks, but you gotta keep your wits about you.

I only trust me and Thee.  Frankly, I'm beginning to have doubts about Thee.

Ha, reminds me of a great sign I saw in a shop in the US:  "In God We Trust - All Others Pay Cash."

Just read a great book called: Tribe.  Really got me thinking about our need to be part of groups, and in particularly how that need is hijacked by the sociopaths that inevitably end running govts,  organising bodies and clubs.     We really don't have adequate "immune system" defenses to purge the toxic elements from such groups.    So you end up with Gresham's Law happening:   The bad (apples) drive out the good, and before you know it, it's Game Of Thrones everywhere.    Overly cynical?
