Hey everyone!  I have my dress and I'm calculating stones for it.  Looks like I'm at 15 gross.  Is this an insane amount or par for the course?

Depends on the size of the stones, the pattern you're doing, and the dress itself. My dramatic used 8 gross, but they were all different sizes and mostly only around the bustline/neckline, straps, and some at the bottom of the skirt. I'm also a size 14, so it just takes more stones anyway. I don't know that there is a hard and fast rule about what number is too much.

Thanks, TreSk8sAZ!  I just saw a skating dress online with THIRTY gross so I guess 15 isn't crazy.  I was envisioning being so weighed down that I wouldn't be able to skate.   :o

15 could be too many, or it could be not enough - depends on the design and the size of the stones.

I have one dress myself with about 6 gross on it and it appears "barely" stoned... I keep meaning to add (a lot) more :)

If it keeps the skirt from twirling you may be approaching too much.  ;)
Yes I'm in with the 90's. I have a skating blog. http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/

*chuckles*. My first skating dress was heavy velvet. That sucker didn't float at all.

The dress I'm working on now I've purchased around 31 gross of stones.... Granted, I have no used all of them and will probably have some leftover (or will add on later) but it's a LOT.

Right now there's a few gross on the dress already.

There are jet black stones mixed into the dress itself so it looks like there's a bit less than there actually is on the dress right now. :)

That is gorgeous, davincisop! Please post photos when it's finished!

Actually...the skirt twirls TOO MUCH!  It's made of velvet sections and sequin sequins and it sort of looks like a car wash when I spin.  It needs to be sewn together and weighed down.   :o

SO pretty!

I seem to recall we may be around the same size?  Can I call first dibs on this whenever you choose to sell it? (however far in the future that is) :)

Gorgeous!!!! Can't wait to see it as the stoning evolves.
