I'm really excited, and thought I would post here since most friends wouldn't understand.

After a most excellent lesson yesterday - DD has started working on her axel - yeah!!! I know it will be a looong while (her coach predicts 6 months) before she actually lands it. She is just thrilled to have reached this milestone and so am I.

Okay, enough of the mom brag.

Congratulations! A big accomplishment for a little skater! (She's 11-12is now, right?)

Yes, 11 - almost 12. She's been skating for 2-1/2 years now. We landed at a great rink with an absolutely wonderful coach last fall . I've been thinking about putting together a compilation video for dd so that she can visually see her progress.

One significant change I have noticed in the last 2-3 months is her practice habits. She used to work on an element she wanted to master pretty intently and then mess around with fun stuff for the rest of the session. Now she is going through her practice just like it were a lesson with her coach without any guidance from me. Last week she decided to spend her practice time trying to improve her forward and backward crossovers. She came off the ice red in the face, winded, and with legs of jello.

Regardless of any future skating accomplishments, just watching DD develop this work ethic is amazing. I love what the sport of skating and working with a great coach has done for DD. I can't say enough nice things about her coach - she is truly gifted in helping her skaters reach their potential while sharing her love for this sport.
