The world-famous Ice Skating Rink at Rockefeller Center sent me an email last weekend saying that they were open for the season.

If you've always wanted to skate there, do it before Thanksgiving when the holiday season kicks into gear.  This is a very small rink.  During the Thanksgiving-to-New Year time frame, you can't fall down because the public sessions are so crowded, it's like riding the subway at rush hour.

Each year the world's most famous tree is lit the week following Thanksgiving. The 2010 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 with live and taped performances from 7-9pm. The tree will be illuminated through January 2, 2011. Visit New York City for the 2010 Tree Lighting! Plan your trip here.

The tree will be illuminated from from 5:30am to 11:30pm daily, all day (24 hours) on Christmas Day, and from 5:30am to 9pm on New Year's Eve. The tree may be viewed 24 hours a day, but is the most glorious when lit.

Looks like NBC cut the skating again this year - what a waste to use the ice rink as a staging area and not show any skating.
