Danskin Tights

I'm looking at getting a new pair of tights as a backup for the Capezio Skate Tights I already have. Their price went up to almost $17 a pair, so I'm looking at Danskin Ultrasoft Microfiber Footed Tights, which are only $12 a pair. Does anyone know if these are as thick as Capezio's Skate Tights? It doesn't list the dennier, just says they're "microfiber" and it doesn't call them "skate tights" . . . so are they thick enough?

Also, on the off chance that I ever need to wear these with a skirt, instead of beneath my pants or leggings, I'm wondering which color to get. I'm extremely fair-skinned and I despise the way suntanned tights look on me. It's unnatural and repulsive. The Capezios come in Suntan or Nude. I bought Nude and it's much better than the dark tan of Mondor's tights, but it's still very dark on me. Looking at these Danskins, they come in two colors that might be appropriate: Light Toast or Ballet Pink. I'm leaning toward the Light Toast, because Ballet Pink looks more like a pale pink, instead of a skin-tone color. But does anyone know how pale the Light Toast is? It's hard to tell from the photo if it's light enough. Is it a nice, light skin-tone? Or is it just a medium shade of tan?

If they are the same ones we buy, these are for ballet and dance not skating.

Yes, Danskin went out of the skating business a couple years ago, so the only Danskin skating tights out there are ones that pro shops had and haven't sold yet. Capezio has also left the skating business, so Mondor is pretty much the only large company making skating tights right now.

I know some elite skaters (Meryl Davis is one) wear clear fishnet stockings over their skating tights and from far away, their legs look like normal skin color. That could be an option to 'lighten' the tights color.

I don't know if I could handle two pairs layered over each other, but thanks for the tip. If I had to, maybe I could try the lighter Danskin tights over the darker Capezio tights, to get the right color, if I ever had to wear tights with a skirt.

I know the Danskin tights aren't officially skating tights, but since they said "microfiber" (same as the Capezo skating tights) I was hoping they would be the same thickness and warmth. If that's not the case, I'll probably buy the Capezio tights again, even though they're darker than I'd like. At least they're lighter than Monder's ultra-suntan!

Have you tried Mondor's light tan color? That's what I get for my daughter--much better color for her than the suntan. I need to think ahead a bit since they're not always in stock everywhere, but it hasn't been a problem to get them.

I haven't seen the light tan color anywhere. Our pro-shop doesn't carry them, and neither does Amazon. Where do you find them?

I like to wear body tights- that way there is no unsightly bulge at the waist. So most of the time, I wear dance tights- they don't seem to make them in skating weight. That they are thin doesn't bother me, there is enough "coverage".

The microfiber ones are my favorite- the material is the best (though I like Body Wrappers more than Danskin) but it isn't thicker.

Your pro shop can order them, or you can buy them from a figure skating shop online.

I order my DDs' OTB Mondors in light tan from tidewaterice.com. I buy four pair at a time, so they discounted the per-unit price. The order arrived in less than a week at Christmastime.

Shop around, though, the prices with shipping can vary a lot.

Euroskins doesn't make skating tights but their "suntan" is one of the lightest tan colors I've found. Their heavyweight body tights are even lighter tan - it's a really close match for my skin tone, however the heavyweight tights have a seam down the inside of the leg.

I would shy away from any danskin tights.. the last ones I got were old stock and the elastic was shot in all of them before I even wore them.

Thanks for the tip about buying old-stock tights. It never occurred to me that the elastic might be shot, but you're right, that is a concern.

I'll keep an eye out for the Mondor lighter color tights. It would probably be cheapest to have my pro-shop order them, so I don't have to pay shipping, but I'll look around. Thanks!

Thanks. I went ahead and bought a second pair of the discontinued Capezio skating tights from Amazon, since I liked them pretty well and shipping was free. That way I have a backup pair if my main pair gets a hole in them, or if I don't get them washed before my next skating practice. I'll keep Mondor in mind for my next purchase. Hopefully the light tan will be pale enough for me!
