I only was on the ice once with my brand new skates, and from practicing lunges, the right portion of the leather sole on my right foot boot, is already worn, and scuffed..Is that normal? Does that mean I'm doing my lunges wrong...my teacher said they looked really good, ( my lunges)...would boot covers prevent that?

Yes, normal.

Boot covers or sk8tape will prevent the scrape, but it's a sign of a skater.

thanks!
Yeah, its not even the white of the boot, it's the sole :(
Any good boot cover brands?
I guess I better invest in a pair when I practice the lunges....

Re reading  meant left side of right foot..lol.

I like Chloe Noel boot covers. They're nylon-spandex, so they don't get holes as easily as the lycra boot covers.

LOL - I was going to post NOT Chloe Noel!  :D  Dd got a hole the first day!  I think it must be a YMMV kind of deal.   ;D For the soles you might keep some sno seal for scuff marks.  The skate soles will get a nice patina eventually and it won't be noticeable, you just want to keep the soles waterproof.

I use regular lycra boot covers, the lunge areas are mended over and over, but otherwise they survive ok.

I knew what you meant - it's normal.  While the lunge itself is properly done with the upper on the ice, the edge of the sole gets scraped as you enter/exit the lunge.  The suggestion about sno-sealing is important because the scrape exposes fresh leather to water.

Just for future reference, it's normal for the boots to get scratches, gouges, scrapes and nicks.  My specialty as a beginner was the "accordian skin," where the white upper is scraped off into a little folded pile.  (BTW, leather is painted, so under the white paint is grey or brown leather.)

Skates are your equipment so use them and keep them maintained, but don't worry too much about blemishes.  They don't affect your skating.

great advice! I'll look into sno seal...I was so upset to see part of the  sole, all rigid already...and yes, it definitely happened on the exit of the lunge...Thanks everyone ! they are so beautiful, I hate to see them marked, though I guess that's a sign of a seasoned skater :)
