Your New Years Resolutions a Skater (2010)

Ok my fellow Skaters!!!! It's time to discuss our 2011 New Years Resolutions as Skaters.Here's mine...

1. To become a better Skater.

2. To work on and become better at a lot of moves.

Anybody else?

1. (early in year) Compete in Pre-preliminary with axel.
2. (later on in the year) Compete Preliminary or Pre-juv.
3. (for whole year) Land & make consistent four doubles and one double combination.
4. Have a flying camel spin

1) pass bronze moves and freestyle
2) learn and land an axel by December 31, 2011
3) perform my first solo program
4) participate in my first competetition that isn't a basic skills competition
5) more than 4 revs in my backspin

I'm so far behind on last year's goals, it's not funny.  A new year, a fresh slate, right?

1) start taking private lessons and skating regularly for myself.
2) focus on Moves and Dance
3) get back into a regular exercise routine, possibly Pilates
4) lose weight and get healthy

I start my New Year's Resolutions in December, so if I fail in the first few weeks, it doesn't count because it's not the New Year yet.  Much less discouraging, to my way of thinking.

A few false starts in December are fine as long as I can get it under control by 1/1 and move forward!

So, first, let me ask....how are we starting 2011 already????

Here is what I would like to accomplish:

1) Pass Senior Moves
2) Fully rotated axel (with proper air position)
3) Fully rotated double sal (with proper air position)
4) Double toe
5) Attempt Intermediate Free Test
6) Start Dance (yay! Dutch Waltz)

I think that's it :)

Last year, some skaters coaxed me into writing these NY-resolutions,
which due to 2 circumstances beyond my control, I could not meet. -
Since 'AWAY-from failure' never did motivate me, I rather live as a TOWARD-person  :) for a better future,
when some people posted "Skate MORE", I agree skate MORE is kewl ;D
ps:
Some of the moves I play around with, I believe I can make enough progress in,
that Skating-friends will help me Create a little program, of my own I would love this  :stars

Proud that 2010 goals were achieved!! For 2011, this will be more of a WISH LIST than resolutions.

- I hope to land lutz and start working toward axel (which means loop needs to get more spring).

- Spins-wise I'd love to have camel and maybe layback. (So difficult to put harder things on a schedule)

- Core strength improvement. Stretching regularly to get a split, but be careful not to pull the muscle again (was really close but neglected to warm up first).

- Depending on results of job hunting (future CPA here), get private lessons and work on a program.

Oh gosh, it's too embarrassing to list my goals. However, I really, really want to learn how to sew sequins--does that count?

absolutetly!

My only goal: try to get to the rink more than once a week! It's been harder than anything now that I'm back in school....but I'm trying. Not too worried about passing Bronze MIF, if I do, that's great. If not, try again next time  ;D
Avoiding the Silver Moves Mohawk click-of-death!!!

1) learn my footwork!! and gain enough stamina to do a simple program all the way through hitting all the elements.
2) pass silver moves (do I dare put this on the list??)
3) get in better shape; be consistent about getting to the rink and the gym.
4) land loop on one foot.
5) get low enough in sit spin.
6) rotate camel 6 times.
7) relearn inside spread eagle.
8) learn twizzle in at least one direction on at least one foot.

I am starting a new career as a nurse and plan to leave coaching and get back on the ice for myself.
When this happens, my major plan is to get back to where I was 10 yrs ago. I'm 44 now and have stayed in shape at the gym to the best of my ability as a busy RN student.

2011 goals:

1) Finally make myself a free program!
2) Test level 1 field moves, elements, and free program
3) Test level 2 field moves, elements, and free program
4) Test level 3 field moves, elements, and free program
5) Land lutz
6) Land axel
7) Start doubles (this is getting hopeful, but you never know...)
8 ) Start layback
9) Start back camel or back sit

but since this thread is all about resolutions:
1) Go to the gym at least once a week
2) Get to the rink at least twice a week
3) Do 15 mins of off ice (especially squats & stretches) every second day, or every day if possible.
4) Warm up for at least 5-10mins off ice before each session, no matter if I am late.
5) Spend at least the first 10mins of ice on field moves, and then repeat for 10mins later in the session. This brings me onto...
6) Plan (only in my head) how I will use my time each session I go to, be strict about practicing things I don't like
7) Concentrate on doing footwork skills and turns in each direction equally, avoid one-sidedness...
8 ) Write down exercises/things my coach sets me to practice, so I don't forget, and then actually practice them
9) When I fall, I should get back up ASAP (I have this bad habit of just sitting there if it is a quiet session)

Whew! That was a lot!  :laugh:

Ambitious, but we'll see.
1. Test level 1-5 field moves
2. Get biellmann position on other leg
3. Split, charlotte and fan spirals
4. Passable camel and maybe doughnut spin
5. Passable sit and one variation
6: Passable layback. Depending on #2, maybe start on biellmann spin...
7: Land axel. Maybe 2sal or 2toe
8. At least one death spiral - probably BoDs
9. Star or platter lift

1. Sleep less, skate more
2. Learn a real jump, other than a Waltz Jump
3. Pass pre-bronze MITF

1. master all the basic 6 elements
2. start and finish basic 7 and 8
3. be on my way to freestyle 1 by this time 2012

I hope I have doubles in me somewhere, but I like to be challenged and have a big target. So even if I get nowhere near the axels or doubles, I'll skate better just for having that aim in my head. In fact, I've been aiming for axel since I knew what one was! I said, whilst wobbling in rentals, that if I could do just one axel I would be happy, and I think that's still true! Just one clean axel, and I would be so pleased - until I had to make a new goal of consistancy or whatever...

I started my resolutions early so I could have a second chance if I let them slip, but so far I've been keeping to them, so yay for me!

I love how the 8 on momsk8er's list turned into a little cool face   :laugh:

Pikachu314 - I'm London-based. And you?

I'm in a very good mood - spoke to my coach about the above and he doesn't think the timeline unreasonable given how quickly I pick things up and how hard I work, which was both a relief and really surprising! But now he wants a split spiral in a month - arghhhh 8)

Hope you'll forgive me for not saying exactly, but although not in London, I'm not all that far off  ;D

Gah, spit spirals  :D At one point I had about 140 degree on one leg and more like 120ish on the other, but now. . . let's not even go there, I really need to get back into the habit of stretching regularly.

How's everyone doing with their Resolutions?  Any accomplishments and new/revised Goals? 

My resolutions are still on the table, but time is a'wasting!  Had to wait for the extended Synchro season to end and pay off some bills before doing anything.

1. Nope. It's no-test for me.
2. Probably not.
3. What was I thinking? :laugh: I think I'll settle for landing two or three doubles. Forget the consistency and the combo.
4. Haven't learnt it yet but I'll probably learn it after competitions are all done.
5. Now that I've begun testing, I want to pass through Pre-juv moves by the end of the year. Not really sure how long it realistically takes to acquire Pre-juv elements so this resolution isn't solidified yet.

I tend to set the bar way high when making short term goals. Pre-juv competition? Did I hit my head or something before I typed that three months ago? :angel

lutz, back scratch, and camel will take a long while!

The first quarter isn't even over yet, so don't get discouraged.

If you didn't make a list of goals in December, add them now.  If you have change them, go right ahead.
Make those goals something you can achieve by the end of the year and figure out how to make them happen!

Keep on plugging away at those resolutions, everyone!

I didn't set any in Dec/Jan because I hadn't been on the ice enough to know where I was really starting from.  Now that I have a couple months of consistent skating under my belt, I guess I should come up with some.  Hmm . . . I'll have to think on that a bit.
