Hey guys, was just doing my usual obsession over blades when I came across this website of this lady (Stuart Benjamin Morgan)  basically this lady has been working on these specific type of blades that are made completely out of titanium. She calls them the Pegasus blades. She's been working on them since 00' I think! I'm not sure if They're out already.  In the link she's says you can order them for price of $1,200 to $1,500. (Ridiculous price tag) Anyone heard of these blades.  Here the link to the web site.

Besides being over the top price-wise, one wonders if such blades could be sharpened on machines typically found in most pro-shops or if you'd need to ship them back to the maker every thousand hours or so.

I assume it doesnt need any special equipment to sharpen other then the regular.  But then again i could be wrong. It would be a pain in the butt to have to ship it back just for sharpening. Also with that price tag it better be able to sharpen them easily. Have you taken a look at the blade itself on the website lutefisk?

Your hypothetical blade supplier, Titanium Beach lists the specific alloy as "military spec 9046J aerospace quality 6-4 titanium alloy" (which alloy is described in the Wikipedia article on titanium), and says their phone number is (508) 251-2473.

Why not call them for such info, and tell us what you find?

If one source is correct, MK and Wilson "Revolution" series blades are made and or plated with titanium/steel alloys. Wonder if they are the same alloy as the blades you are considering. If so, does anyone know if they can be sharpened on standard sharpening machines? I bet they can.

Titanium Beach says that the blades are "hard chrome" plated. If I understand correctly, that means the edge will only have the durability of hard chrome, not of hardened titanium. (I think a hardened plating would only be needed if the plating is not ground off near the working surface, just like Ultima blades, which use a hardened nickel plating instead of grounding the nickel off they way MK and Wilson grind off the nickel/chrome plating off.)

Given that, and the fact that they are using an aerospace alloy rather than a knife blade alloy, it could conceivably be a cool sounding sales gimmick for an overpriced product. But until and unless you try it, and give us a report, we will never know.

Well in my opinion I think the $1,500 price tag on just blades is way over board even for the best of blades. Maybe your right it is  just a gimmick or maybe not. I'll give them a try once she puts a reasonable price. Until then I'll probably be sticking to the eclipse titanium once I get a chance to switch. Let me tell you Query, YOU ARE AWESOME!! Your blade knowledge is incredible and I hope to understand blades just as well as you do one day. Thanks so much.

I definitely don't know everything about blades. Most coaches know a lot more about what each specific blade is supposed to do.

I just tried to do some simple WWW research, and talked to a bunch of people from the different companies.

Thanks!

You know, if you have lots of money to burn, there is nothing wrong with trying them. You might well love them, and do wonderful in them. I was just trying to damper your enthusiasm a bit if you have limited resources, because they might not prove ideal for you.
