Which skates?

Dd broke her ankle and has probably outgrown her skates (she is off the ice).  They were a tight fit before (we have had them stretched) then she was injured.

She was going into a stiffer boot because she was doing well with her doubles.

But now she might be off the ice much longer and she can't jump at all (physically cannot jump onto the ball of her foot on a trampoline -part of therapy is to try).

So when she is able to return should we get the same level skates (riedell 435) since she has so much lost time or go with the upgraded boots anyway?  I am not buying skates until her foot/ankle is healed, but I am looking at the cost of skates and wondering if the extra cost for skates beyond the 435 is worth it at this point.

If you were planning on upgrading before, I would probably stick with that plan... unless she does not plan on jumping at all when she is cleared to return to the ice, but I don't see any reason why she couldn't after PT has cleared her (it is a long process and you have to be patient).

That said, I would talk to her coach and see what they suggest... it will be an adjustment returning to the ice anyways, but if she's physically ready you might be surprised how quickly she's back to where she was, so you want to plan for that, not assume she can't.

Coming back from a broken ankle, she doesn't need a stiffer boot.  I really don't think the lighter boot will make much of a difference - she's going to need to rebuild her strength without a lot of changes.  Breaking in new boots is going to be enough work without having to adjust to a different boot model.

I would suggest sticking with the 435's, imo.

I think you should stick with the 435's. Because, up to her injury, she's done all of her jumps, etc. in that particular model boot, so after coming back from an injury, I think it would be better for her muscle memory if she went back to what she had before. Since they'll be new, the boots shoud have more support for the time being. It might take her a while to bounce back to where she was, perhaps giving you some time to save up some more money for the stiffer boots after she's fully recouped. Best of luck!  :D
Don't practice it until you don't do it wrong, practice until you can't do it wrong.
