My DDs passed their Prelim Moves tests today!

They both said they're "never doing that again," meaning that particular test.  They hated the spiral sequence because it required so much strength and control.  (Well, duh.)

I went over Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile with them yesterday and they agreed it's doable for them since there are no spiral patterns and because they have Ice Dance skills.

Best of all, it's on to Freestyle for them!  One wants to get her Axel, the other wants to work on spins without being reminded to "practice Moves."

I think dinner and dessert is certainly in order.

Since the test was on a Sunday morning, the plan was to go out for a nice breakfast afterward.  Best laid plans: we volunteered to play the music for the freestyle testers afterwards and then I had to teach a lesson on a public session.  By then we were really cold and hungry, so we used my car's heated seats on the way home, had soup, took naps, did laundry, went to Church...and now it's 7:20pm.  Everyone's awake and hungry, so eating out is a good idea.

I'm so dumb sometimes - the CD player that I was using is right next to the scorer's box.  I not only climbed past the box of judge's blankets without taking one, I didn't realize that there's a portable electric heater in the scorer's box.  Around the fourth skater, I noticed it and turned it on - ahhhh...it felt so good for the last two skaters' programs and the Pre-Preliminary freeskate test.

I think my DD's coach batted 1.000 today - I haven't heard about any of her students getting a retest.  One girl from another club didn't pass Prelim Moves, but I didn't see her test, so I don't know what went wrong.  I really think this test is more strenuous and difficult than the Pre-Juvenile.

On the pre-juv dd thought the backwards figure 8 was very difficult.  It was the first test item she felt a little iffy about.  She is REALLY loving learning the juv test.  She thinks the 8 step mohawk and the power circles are amazing fun.  She enjoys all of the pieces but those are her faves.

Thanks for the congratulations.  They were supposed to take this test earlier this year, but the spirals really weren't ready yet.  Over the summer, they were away for camps and had tremendous growth spurts, so they felt awkward and their core strength needed/still needs to improve.  They felt like they'd been working on these moves FOREVER because they started preparing at the beginning of the year.

The backward 8 is going to be tricky, but they've done basic figures, so it shouldn't be too hard for them.

Congratulations! And yes, those spirals are not easy. Try doing them when you're over 40 and lugging around a few extra pounds. . . .
