Just a little ice breaker poll for the day - what's your favorite skating jump?
(Doesn't matter if you do it badly or not at all.)

Split jump is beautiful to watch, does it count? ;)

FigureSpins

Sure!

I wish I knew how to make it a multi-select poll, so you didn't have to choose just one option.
I'll have to ask Jim if that can be done.

What, no salchow? It's my favorite jump. 2nd fave is the toe-loop even tho it freaks me out 75% of the time  :o

Ahhh!  It's a mental thing - I hate salchows, although I *finally* managed a few good ones on my new skates.
I added it - thanks for telling me!

The flip is my most consistently good jump, but I love the feel of a great axel, so that's what I voted!

Skittl1321

I'd be happy if I never had to do a jump again!   I hate 'em.
But I do freeskate, so I do them....  I guess my least hated jump is a waltz jump.

I love salchows :)  They were the first jumps I was able to do when I took up skating again, and they remain my favorite "go to" warmup jump.  I think I just like how smooth/effortless the entrance and jump is compared to the others... everything else feels like more work!

Elsa

Ooh, it's a toss up between flip and loop - I really can't decide, I love them both. :)

Sierra

Loop and flip are my two equally favorite singles, but I prefer double loop over double flip so I voted loop.  :)

I love salchows - they almost never let me down.

Anything but a bunny hop.

My left knee cap is totally destroyed from bunny hops, so I *never* do them.  I am an adult, I can decline to do what I see as a real danger to myself...

When it's consistant and the timing is on, salchow is my favorite.  But, since I only get to skate once a week for now, my most consistant jump is waltz.  Since I took most of three years off, it's all coming back very slowly.

Love the way a nicely done dbl flip looks. I can't do one yet but hopefully soon I will be starting them again. I used to work on them when I quit skating few years ago.

Laneybug7

That's a toughy..because I love to jump. I guess my favorite jump to do is a nice floaty loop. To watch and hopefully learn how to do...hmm..probably a nicely executed/delayed axel.  Not the ones that are rushed through and/or cheated, but I mean one with nice height, effortless rotation, soft knee landing.  A girl at my rink does an amazing one..she's currently working on a her 2lutz.

irenar5

Loop and lutz. I love that long ride back on the lutz :-)  The only time I can't get a good feel on the loop is when it is after the waltz.  I have no problems with it as a second jump after any other jump, but the waltz!
I used to hate salchow, but now that I am working on a double, I am definitely feeling the edge! It is become  a fave as well.

Anything but a bunny hop.

The Canadian LTS system renamed them as a "forward power jump".  (a waltz jump is a forward rotating power jump).  Does that make them seem more appealing?

Interesting. Did they rename axel as well to, say "forward rotating power jump II"?

No! It makes them sound scary!  :sweat

Toe loop is my favourite  :WS:

I can do waltz jump and salchow and have been working on loop for over a year without managing to land it. Started flip a little before I hurt my ankle a couple of months ago as well, but again, nothing close to landed! Salchow really hurts at the moment cause it bends my left ankle in ways it doesn't like. But I've never been a big lover of it. Yet somehow ended up with two of the things in my last program lol!

I like the feel of toe loop, it feels like a "proper" jump, and I feel like I have more airtime than for any of my other jumps. The first time I did it after about seven weeks of no jumping at all, I was shocked at how long it was before I landed lol!

Any jump that is done really well (where the skater seems to just hang in the air and isn't trying to squeeze the rotation into a jump with not really enough height and air time) is lovely to watch.  The first time I saw someone do a really good double axel I was gobsmacked. I missed half the jump. He was a coach and we were all just pottering around warming up, I heard him take off, turned around to look and he was still in the air.

Whew! Good to know I'm not the only one who hates bunny hops. I look like a scared bunny when I do those.

Dd said her favorite is her flip but she also likes the feeling of a great axel.

JSM

I LOVE axels.  They are fun to do, and I used to have such a beautiful one!  I can land it now but it's not so pretty anymore

I like lutzes too, but they don't like me very much - I tend to flutz it right at the last second.  It's getting better with practice though!

Icicle

Definitely the lutz. It needs more height, but it feels comfortable. If I ever land a double, it will probably be the lutz. My second favorite is the loop. I don't care much about the salchow for it took me so long to land.
