This was my first attempt at a semi-custom dress. I don't know if we will use it for a competition, but we might. If not, it will make for a fun practice dress! I used two different patterns and modified the bodice to the design it the way I wanted it. I am fairly pleased with the end result. it doesn't look too bad for my first attempt at "designing" a dress.

This was the dress before I added elastic and some crystals: http://www.flickr.com/photos/61564764@N07/5604102158/in/photostream

I was going to add one with the elastic and crystals, but I am having trouble uploading the picture.

That's cute!  I wish I had time to sew.  I haven't had time to make a new dress in a few years.

You are very tallented. The dress is very beautiful. My mother made all my daughter's skating dresses too. We are very lucky that my mom is able to do it. I have not bought any skating dresses for my daughter since she started skating.

Very pretty.  Did you serge the underside and the print together for the skirts?

I'm really loving the look of an underskirt on dresses now.

I did... it is a 2 layer skirt. Funny thing is, I realized AFTER I put the dress together that I did not complete the skirts! I was supposed to add on 4 more petals per skirt. OOPS! I may try that skirt again... I have a few ideas floating around in my head. :) I'm playing with underskirts lately. I also need to figure out how to make a narrower rolled hem. :) I think the lettuce edge skirts looks soooo pretty!

Thanks! I am pretty new to sewing, so making skating clothes has been an adventure! Elastic still makes me crazy and someday I may figure out how to install a zipper. LOL! I am improving though! practice, practice, practice! lol

I love it!  Hope you can get the other picture up so we can see the finished product.  I bet you have a very happy DD!

Thanks! I have actually redone the dress. Coach liked it and we are planning on using it for competition. I have modified it slightly. The other one I will either sell, or keep for now. I am torn about selling it, because it is so similar to the one I just made. Part of the reason I am making it, is so she has an original dress...lol. Anyway... I am working on another design for her showcase program. :)

Could you sell it on something like myskatingmall.com so that hopefully you sell it out of state- and anyone who buys it won't be at the same competitions as your daughter?

skittl... I thought about selling it somewhere online, but I think I may hang onto it and use it as a back up dress. We've never needed a back up, but you never know, right? It would work in a pinch!

Here are pics of the new and improved dress. I added the green petals to the skirt and I added green to the back side of the bodice for contrast. The original dress had a solid blue back bodice. The new dress cost me 18.00 to remake! I plan on adding crystals to the new dress and even after I purchase those, I will have paid maybe 50.00 for the dress! Not to shabby.

Here are some pics of the new dress:

Here is another dress I made. I would like to create a dress for my daughter's program. I attached a "tattered" skirt to this dress. This is just a practice dress(for me and her! LOL), but it was fun to try!

I love the skirt on this dress, very nice and really creative. I can imagine it must be something in motion. Good job!

Thanks! She hasn't worn it yet since I just made it Sunday. :) I want to make one with the one shoulder look. I just need to figure out how to cut the strap. I will also make the competition one a little different. I think I will make the skirt with wider strips of fabric. We are also thinking of making that dress orange and purple. I'd like a 3rd color too. I can't figure out what color though! I will also do some kind of contrast on the bodice since the next dress will be used in competition. The dress I recently made, I made using fabric I had around the house. :) I do think this skirt style could be a lot of fun!

Here is a picture of the dress with crystals on it. I cannot believe that dress has 500 crystals on it!!! I really didn't start out intending to crystal the heck out of it. Still, even with the crystals, the dress cost me 55.00(or there about).

I am pleased with how it turned out. Not bad for my first competition dress!!

It looks great! My only two dresses I have sewn my daughter have been essentially unwearable but I may try (once again) a course to see if my complete lack of ability to a machine can be reversed!

twokidsskatemom

wow that came out very nice! I wish I sewed, its a talent I dont have !!
