This problem is becoming more and more...problematic haha. The tongue of my skate (the flap underneath the shoestrings) seems to want to wiggle alllllllll the way to the left on the left skate while I'm skating skating! I usually have to get off the ice and go re lace my skates a few times and it's very annoying!
My skates are bladerunner solstice if that would make a different. I skate for about 2 hours at a time, and usually have to relace every hour. Oh and my right skate has no problem!
What could be the problem?

It's probably the skates.  The tongue isn't fitted and doesn't have rubber backing, so it shifts as you skate.  You probably favor one side more than the other, which is why the left skate is giving you fits.

You can ask the pro shop to put a hook on the tongue to hold it in place with the laces.  I'm not sure if they can do that on vinyl rec skates, but it won't hurt to ask.  There will be a fee if you didn't buy the skates from the pro shop.

You could also try a shoe repair place if you understand what you want.

Harlick has more information on this topic, but it's geared towards foot pronation:
Why do my tongues twist?
You didn't say the left skate hurts at all, so I don't think it's that issue.

Mine ALWAYS did that until I had hooks put on the tongue to loop the laces around. TA DA, no more shifting! Klingbeil does it w/ 2 hooks, my SPTeris have just one. I liked the 2 hooks better, was more secure. A good shoe shop could probably add them in for you.

Does having a hook put in affect the tongue padding?

Isk8NYC

If you have it put in before the padding goes on, no.  If the padding can be removed and reattached, no.

However, if it's a retrofit job, then yes (usually).

Don Klingbeil punched a hole for the riveted hook, which removed a small circle of leather and padding.  I used to get a bulls-eye mark after skating with my old skates, lol.  On the newer one, he put the hook through before glueing on the tongue backing.

Hi.  I recently had a skate hook in the middle of the boot.  I also replaced my tongue and padding so I have a bit more hold in place.  So far so good.  Not that much tougue sliding out.  However, the boot still feels loose.

I suspect that I will have to do the reconstructing the entire boot soon, if not get a new boot.  Not fun, money wise...  ::sad

On hiatus from competition. Working towards getting back to it.

A LTS parent just asked me about the tongue hook on my skates tonight.  His daughter's wearing Lake Placid skates that have twisty tongues, so I suggested he ask if the pro shop can help.
