By the way my motor's  original bearings etched on its inner rim as " NTN CANADA 6203C3".

Qsior

IE replied to my email.
I'm wondering whether to replace these bearings or not.:(

,,
We are sending two videos showing our machine and you will note that the runout on the perpendicularity is at its highest point opposite the set screw.  If you would like to improve that, you can insert a small brass shim between the set screw and the shaft.  But those tolerances are well within spec.  I spoke with my engineer to confirm.
 IMG_3218.MOV
 IMG_3219.MOV
Perpendicularity on your machine and my machine both show .004 thousandths runout which should have no bearing on the belt wear.  In the second video I show .0015 run out on concentricity which is well within tolerance.  Please make the adjustment on the carriage to be flush with the head and your belt wear should be fine.  We are going to send you 4 replacement belts at no cost to you.  ,,

Qsior

I answered them:
,,Okay, I'll try again.
Although I think that such a large wobbling is a problem and that's why the belt is falling, twisting in time .

Is the cartridge height correct now?

new belt, please see how the belt waves, I wonder how long it will last this time

Kaitsu

Here is runout results from my machine. https://youtu.be/N-Wx08eY7b4

Note also my machine electric motor axial clearance. I did do measurements with dial gauge with 0.001mm scale division as well as with lever dial gauge with 0.01mm scale division. Dial gauge with 0.001 resolution was too slow to measure axial runout while motor was running. With that axial runout was just 0.005mm, which is not true.

I think belt wobbling / waving looks normal behavior. My machine has been like this all the time. This is one reason why my dream sharpening machine would be direct driven.

When I listened your latest videos, I realized that noise can come from the bottom cap which is in the bottom of the spindle cartridge. Try to remove it temporary to see if it helps. Sometimes the locking nut may hit into that plastic cap and that causes nasty noise.

Qsior

Kaitsu,
Thank you very much for your measurements, I am very grateful.
It turns out that the runout is indeed OK.

I managed to buy a few belts today. They were supposed to be Optibelt, but they have the Gates logo on them. They seem to be of better quality than the ones that came with the machine. Maybe it's the poor quality of those belts?
I'll see how long they last.

The cartridge does sound strange, but I'm sure it's fine inside; I shook it, and nothing rattles. There's definitely some noise in the engine itself, like loose balls.
We'll see what happens.

Woofoo

Qsior,

Certainly you should not change the bearing right away. You should try as Kaitsu suggest:
1) Put on the Belt and take off the plastic cover on the bottom of the Cartridge and Run the machine. To see if the problem noise persist.
2) If the problem persist, send them the Video to show a) with the Belt on and the problem persisted b) take off the Belt and let the motor Run alone and the NOISE persisted(just as you show us in the video you posted on January 25, 2026, 03:45:06 PM ). And ask them to REPLACE the motor for you. Because you machine is rather new, I think they would be within the Warranty.

Change the bearing yourself should be the "the last ditch" means. Since it could Void the Warranty, BE CAREFUL.

Just keep us posted.

So far so good,

several pairs of skates sharpened so far

the belt has stabilized and isn't wobbling.

Maybe the belts were faulty,?
Maybe lifting the machine caused the bearing to settle better ? ;)

Kaitsu,
how often do you change the belt?

Woofoo

Qsior,

Glad to hear from you and know the situation is so far so good.

By the way, as you show in the post #127 No.1 Video, your belt seems a little slightly too tight for me. I don't know if it would cause the problem or not. Just for in case.

Good luck and good business.

I have not kept any record how long I have used each belt, but I would say that I have used same belt at least 3 years. How much you use the machine obviously affects to the service interval. Also if you don't ever wipe grinding dust from the the belt and keep it too loosen so that it slips affects to the life time.

Have I used one belt too long? Perhaps. Risk is that pulley wheels belt grooves profile wears to be wrong and they will damage then new belt. Sid sent me ones photo how the spindle pulley wheel can wear heavily. I don't remember anymore if that pulley wheel was hardened or not. Pulley wheel at motor end does not look anymore like it would have 60 deg. V-groove. I have planned to machine new larger pulley wheel to compensate speed difference between 50Hz and 60Hz electrical networks. I have just been lacy to study if I can find suitable length of the belt and how much I should increase the pulley wheel diameter.

ps. I have not forgot your question about the balancing washers. I am preparing some reply to you, but I have just been just too busy to finish that project. One problem has been that calculated weights does not match with my Chinese scale and that has caused some uncertainly, what I do not like.

interesting way to hold revolution blades, what do you think?

Woofoo

Qsior,

For me, I bought one of the Revolutionary Holder and Quite impressed with the accuracy of it.
Unfortunately they discontinued this production after a couple year of sale. Probably because of the cost. It priced about double the ordinary holder and I think the cost of making it would between 3 to 4 times the ordinary one.

Regards.

Qsior

Woofoo,
Is this the same holder as in the video? It looks like a regular one with something extra to attach it.

Woofoo

Qsior,

Yes, I am sure it is exactly the same thing.

It came with the dial indicator to let you measure the squareness of the blades without remove it from the holder.

You can see it from the attached figure below.

Regards.

Kaitsu

Woofoo,
Do you have any additional photos or videos showing how this carriage works? I'd be very interested to see the mechanism in more detail.

At the moment I'm using the Incredible Edger Hockey Carriage, but honestly I haven't been very happy with it, so I'm curious to see how other carriage designs work in practice.

Here's the carriage I'm currently using:

Woofoo

Kaitsu,

I attached five pages of the user manual below for your reference. If you need video, I think you have to wait....

The holder use the retractable location pins for fixing the position of the blades and the two remain flat area of the side honed blades for the clamping pieces to ensure its accuracy. And the two trenches for the indicator measurement guide. Its accuracy is 0.0005" per division and I had checked with the precision square on the blades afterward, pretty impressive.

Regards.

Woofoo

Kaitsu,

The video of the Blade setting and squareness measurement method are on Youtube as below:

Hope it can help.

Kaitsu

Woofoo,

Thank you! User manual and your videos were very helpful.

Woofoo

Kaitsu,

Here is the illustration of the flat area of the blade clamp to the Holder.

The shaded area in the figure is flat.

Woofoo

Kaitsu,

Can you tell me what kind of tool(socket wrench?) you use to dismantle the lock nut of the cartridge of the I.E.?

Preferable with the photos.

Regards.

Thanx. I will try to check this next time I get GS Rev. In to my hands. Currently I have just parallel P99.

Unfortunately I could not find my order details anymore, but I am quite confident that it was same type of socket behind this link. 20mm/24mm Motorcycles Scooter Clutch Tool Lock Nut Removal Spanner Wrench Socket
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EuDPnuY

I have ordered few different sockets and none of them has fit to this locking nut. If someone knows what is the correct socket type, please let us know. Linked socket requires machining because pins are too thick. I cannot remember anymore if I used just file or milling machine to make pins thinner. This is anyhow best option I have found so far. When I replaced bearings, I didn't have this socket. In that time I used quick & dirty solution. I did buy 3/4" socket (12 point version) which I modified with angle grinder.

Woofoo

Kaitsu,

Thanks !!!

This is a right direction, I think I can find something suitable for the job on this web site. At least I can use least modifying work to make the tool work.

Woofoo,
I just noticed that the central clamping point of the carrier barely touches the shaded area if it is in the middle of blade U-shape. Any comments to this?

Based on the user manual, page 1, locator pin system collides to the spindle cartridge if wheel smaller than 2½". Any comments to this?

Is there something what you would change, if you would re-design this carriage?

Woofoo

Kaitsu,

Please forgive my lousiness of hand drawing and the sloppiness of positioning the blades on the holder.

Actually, you can place the middle clamp more rear on the blade and let it contact more the rear flat area and that area is more big enough to let the clamp securely clamp the blade. (Attachment 1 and 2 would roughly show that area, I hope...) One of the reason Mr. Broadbent use the design of the retractable locator pins I think is to make sure these areas is in perpendicular position to the clamp as possible. No matter you put the clamp on the middle or the rear, to my opinion, it is secure enough.

For the size of the grinding stone, I'm still thinking about it. The locator pin is very important, not only the perpendicular position for the clamp but also for the measurement of the Dial indicator. Since it is the pin stand in the way, it seems the size restriction is a necessity of evil, isn't it? Actually, the size restriction is about 2-9/16 something. By the way, place the blades on the holder after the pin is up is for illustrative purpose. we actually put the blade on first and move it backward to let the pin can come up easily.

About re-design, I would come to you later if I have any idea.

Regards.

Woofoo,

I was studying a bit side honed Revolution blades middle section and I still have some concerns about its reliability as a datum. https://youtu.be/al1ngJdY-V4

I do have also some question related to Revoltion-ary skate carrier and middle section of the blade, but I need to study it a bit more further functionality of this Revoltion-ary carrier. So I will come back to that in another post.
