Anyone from the group competing, coaching or spectating at Adult Nationals?
I will be watching on Wednesday and possibly Saturday.

If anyone is familiar with the Polar Ice House, where is the entrance for skating? ? At the front of the building , along one side, etc. ?
Is the right side towards the back the best place to park at the facility?

If this is a duplicate post please merge with the other post. I didn't see any posts about Nationals.

Sorry I missed you at State Games - I was busy with my student but thanks for asking for me that day.

I have no definite plans to go to AN.  It means rearranging my students and/or taking a day off from my day job, plus driving 45 minutes each way.

Triangle FSC is looking for volunteers.  If you volunteer as an ice monitor, you get in for free and have a rink-side position to watch.

I always park in the back/right lots.  Those are the designated "Ice Rink" spots and I'm a conformist.  Plus, there's usually one or two shady spots under the trees so your car doesn't get too hot.  There's an entrance to the facility back there, so you come in near the (less-crowded) bathrooms and indoor soccer place.  (There are windows that look into one of the rinks, so you can see the action.)

It's a short, air conditioned walk to the rinks' entrance at the front of the facility.  That wide hallway is where the vendors usually set up shop, so it's an interesting (if crowded) stroll.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the Ice Monitor slots are filled and the Door Monitor slots are at times when I definitely want to watch the skating.

I've been there most of the week so far as medical standby. Tomorrow I'm at the practice rink in the morning, WF to watch in the afternoon, and sweeping for the final groups in the evening.  Tuesday was my long day--picked up the first load of officials at the airport, two more airport trips, helped with set up (accounting, medical, coach's hospitality rooms) plus other stuff. I left the rink at 1am Wednesday, got ~three hours of sleep, then back to the practice rink at 9:30am followed by WF at 1pm. I was one tired woman.

I'm sure we can use extra help with breakdown Saturday if you want to volunteer. I'm sure I'll be there--I seem to live there right now.

My rink had a male skater come in 4th in his class. The women have a lot tougher competition. I don't think any of them  placed.

Did you hear about the woman who broke her ankle then cut herself on a blade while trying to get up and bled all over the ice? Apparently as she was being removed on the gurney she cried out "I didn't even get to do my flip!" A skater from my rink slipped her a tossie consisting of two miniature bottles of booze and candy wrapped in bubble wrap as the EMT's carried her out.

Because ChristyRN shamed me, I blew off work this morning and spent a few hours as ice door monitor.  Got to watch the Int-Nov Ladies up close!  Great skating, very talented and stylish.  Some surprises - the awesome flying camel from a skater who looked like a good wind could be a problem and a prerotated axel from someone with an injury.  Enjoyed myself and remembered to buy new Rockerz for myself as a souvenir!

Unfortunately I was watching when she fell. I was all the way at the other end of the rink so I didn't see what happened very well. There was a lot of confusion and misinformation about what happened. Last I had heard on Wednesday when I left was that it was a compound fracture and that is where the blood came from.

After she fell she just sat on the ice and pointed at her ankle , then after a while when no one came to assist her she tried to get up but it was obvious the ankle was injured and several skaters went onto the ice.

One of our top skaters took gold in Ladies Masters Jr/Sr and one of our coaches won silver in Masters Dramatic.  Oddly enough, the coach was putting someone on the ice while I was working as doorlady, so I took a photo of us together just because I liked the kiss-and-cry backdrop.  I was careful to wait until AFTER 5pm to post it on FB, just in case someone was keeping track of my hours.

I'm working late to make up for not really doing any work until 1pm today.  (I did check email and upload some things, but nothing really useful.)

I am red-faced right now ... recognized Jumpin' Joe Sabovcik at the rink ...  but there was one guy who didn't have a lanyard ... he wasn't from around here ... he was in the skaters/coaches only area ... I said "You have a credential, right?"  (I was a walk in volunteer, so I didn't know how strict they wanted the rules enforced) ... I wondered why he smirked ...

Apparently, I can't recognize Charlie Tickner in person ...   :-[

There was another big name coach there too, but I don't remember who.

The woman that broke her ankle (in three places) also cut her hand. She is back home and scheduled for surgery this week. The one that broke her wrist is also home, but I'm not sure if she had to have surgery or not. There was allegedly a bloody nose on ice too. All three happened before I arrived on those days. I passed out a few bandaids and an ice pack. Helped the medical director with a skater who took a small divot out of her leg with the heel of her blade. She was more worried about blood on her clothes than the actual wound.

Our biggest problems were keeping the volunteer spots filled. There were a few dozen that came in for a bit, plus a few of us that lived there. I put in 27 hours, plus time here and there filling in while I was spectating. I assume that combining two clubs a couple of months before such a huge competition isn't a great idea. I went on Saturday purely to watch--did not help with breakdown.

Awesome skating. Saw the oldest competitor do her light entertainment. (It's my new goal to win the Yvonne Dowling trophy). One Silver V lady did a tribute to her husband who sat in his wheel chair on the ice. NOT a dry eye in the house. Light entertainment was very amusing.

We had 390+ skaters and 105 events. It was crazy busy.

I was there for many hours Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat as a competitor (Gold Ladies 1 FS, Light and Dramatic!) and spectator. Gold Light 1 was the last event on Forest rink on Saturday so it was a long day, as I wanted to watch Champ Gold first thing in the morning. It was fun to see all my friends and make new ones. There were some issues with registration - I arrived Tuesday night and had to make 3+ trips to registration Tues/Wed to get my credential, program/pin (pre-purchased) and goodie bag. Luckily I had a friend volunteering that helped me out.

Whoever did the sweeper hairbows and the "tossie targets" shirts is genius, I LOVED them! The tossie game was strong, I've never ended up with as many tossies as this! BINGO was very popular, by Friday even the officials were playing! The whole thing seemed very well attended and the Wake bleachers were packed all day Saturday for Champ events.

After the Great Easterns Power Outage of 2017 and no heat all weekend, I figured anything would feel warm (I skate in a cold rink normally) but I was roasting skating all week! I was in leggings and a t-shirt on all my practice ice sessions! No complaints about that, the weather was GREAT! Locker rooms were decent, I liked the one with the graffiti advice on the bathroom door "Don't B Stupid".
