My daughter has been in her new skates since The end of September. She was having problems with the tongue cutting into her ankles and making her ankles bleed. After awhile, that stopped. Then, a few weeks ago, she started experiencing bleeding once again. This time not from the tongue but the boot it's self. The strange thing is, she went 2 or so months without a problem and now is having to wear bunga pads to avoid irritation. It seems to be more of a rubbing issue. The boots are broken in...so it is not stiffness causing the problem. Has anyone else had this happen before? Thanks.

Is the problem fixed if she wears bunga pads?

I haven't had any issue with my Premiers, but my competitors the top of the boots cut my legs and they bled.  I had to wear gel sleeves- then the problem was gone, so I considered it to be a non-issue once I found a solution.

If the gel sleeves don't fix the problem, they may just not be well fitting boots for her.

They seem to fix the problem. I think it is strange that it was fine for 2 or so months and then they started bothering her again. It is also only one boot, not both. Very odd!

Is she focusing on a particular skill that she hadn't for awhile?  One boot might be rubbing differently because of the way she uses her feet.  Maybe it is aggrevated by a jump landing, or by a certain MITF posture.

That's the only reason I can think why it would come and go.

Personally, if she otherwise likes the boots, just stick with gel sleeves.

Did she take a break at all?  Over the holidays I wasn't skating as much and my skates started cutting my ankles again.

I actually had a similar problem with my Elite Plus.. they rubbed for a while, I actually sanded down (with a dremel) the outside leather on the tongue then it went away for a while, then it came back.  In the end I just wore a sleeve since that eliminated the rubbing.  For me it was just the one boot too.  My new boots don't seem to do this, but I've only had them for a few months - I keep the sleeves handy in case it happens again.

Sleeves aren't a big deal as far as I am concerned - if you pay attention you'll a lot of top skaters seem to wear them all the time.  When you start to get into the multiple gel disks and wrapping toes and making sure everything is "just so" that I'd be more worried about a fit issue.  Using them to prevent rubbing at the top of (or near the top of) the boots is really really common.

I've given up trying to see if I can skate without the tops of my Jackson synchro boots rubbing. I always wear the gel tubes. It solves the problem and is easier than discovering after the effect that you've just rubbed all the skin off.

Nope. Nothing new. She likes the boots ok. I am not planning on switching her boots since this seems to be the only issue. The fitter is will be at winter games in 2 weeks. I may talk to him if it continues to be an issue.

Thanks

Thanks. Hopefully it eventually goes away. I don't plan on switching her boots until we need to since this is the only issue.

Yep, I have Premieres and also had this problem. Just as I was about to order a gel sleeve, it stopped, and now it's back again. I just put band-aids on the sore spot.

I don't know why Jackson made the tongue of the Premieres like that, flat across the top and then the ends pointing down. I think all their other skates have rounded tongues.

I don't think it is the tongue any more. It is near the tongue on her landing foot. The other boot is fine. I wonder if she is landing different? It is just so odd that it would bother her now. In the beginning, the cuts were so bad, I worried the cuts would scar. The gel sleeve solved the problem, but I agree...I don't know why Jackson makes their skates this way. When it is time to replace her boots, I don't know that I will buy the premieres again. They certainly aren't bad boots, but this issue is enough to make me consider another boot. Maybe she can try Edea boots next time. :) For now, she is fine. I am not ejecting a boot replacement for about a year...so we'll just have to get the gel sleeves handy!
