IJS spin question

My dd just skated her first competition for the season and was disappointed to receive a level 1 on her combo spin. The spin is a back entry into camel, sit, Y, then change foot and end with Biellmann. This is a USFS juvenile free skate.

We know she needs to do all three basic positions to get higher than level 1 and it's possible she didn't do 2 revolutions in the back camel or full sit position. However, she also needs to do at least one basic position on each foot and her coach is worried that the Biellmann does not fulfill that requirement for the second foot.  It looks to me like the Biellmann is considered a difficult variation of upright spin and should count for the basic upright position.  Can anyone confirm that this is or isn't true?  Over the last few days I've probably looked at 50 level 3 or 4 spins from last year's regionals on icenetwork and haven't seen one example of this particular combo, which is worrying.

The coach is trying to get an opinion from a tech specialist, but in the meantime has switched the spin to one she knows will get a higher level (assuming it's done well), but doesn't fit quite as nicely with the music.

If she didn't meet the required revolutions then that's probably why it wasn't higher... someone posted a while back that the first revolution after an entry or change of position/foot may not be counted depending on the caller... so while what you are seeing "looks" like so many revolutions, it may actually be short a revolution.

However to answer your question, a Biellmann is a difficult variation of an upright spin.

I'm not sure whether it's relevant, but the ISU has just updated the requirements for this season and I know there are changes to what is needed to get the different levels in spins. I can't remember precisely what they are though.
It might be worth checking that to see whether the spin would tick all the boxes for this season.

There is a girl at my rink with a L3 combo spin where she does a forward Biellmann, and only the Biellmann on that foot, so yes it does count as a basic position.

Either she didn't get the back camel revs/Biellmann revs or she wasn't low enough on the sit. I've seen intended L4 spins be marked L1 because the sit wasn't low enough and therefore didn't tick off a basic sit position box.

Thanks for the replies. It probably was the camel or sit. The spin looked great (+1s and a +2) and we weren't paying close enough attention to be sure. Should've bought the video this time!

Typically if the first position is only 2 in a CCoSp, they call an auto L1.
