If his coaching is anything like his on-ice coaches' presentations, it's money well-spent.

Frank Carroll charges $50 for 20 minutes.

I think there is a price hike after he changed rink. I remember visiting Toyota center (sp) and was surprised how reasonable his rates were.

$150 an hour is still decent for someone with Frank's knowledge and experience.  I know average coaches around here who are getting $90 - $100 now.  Heck, Chris Bowman (RIP) was asking $110 an hour his first year out of Ice Capades, strictly on the basis of his name and his competitive record.

$100/hour or more is normal even for coaches who aren't of Frank Carroll's caliber. Sadly, it seems that a lot of coaches love their Mercedes and BMWs.

I look at it this way...most coaches we know teach at more than one rink.  There are probably 6 freestyle session they can get to - if they have enough kids.  Let's say that they has every day booked.  Sometimes kids are injured or sick or on vacation.  If they work 5 days a week making $600 a day that is 3000 a week.

That is not unheard of for a "expert" in a specialized field.

At my job if my 'supplies' need to be replaced, my job pays for it.  When dd's coach needs new skates, indirectly I pay for (a portion) it.  Chances are if it is their only job they also pay for their own medical.  I don't think $100 an hour is out of line.  I can't afford that much so I don't select that coach, but I don't begrudge the coach who can have clients at that rate!  They only charge what the market will bear.

Keep in mind that if a coach isn't cheating on their taxes (a lot of the part time ones seem to- one coach at my rink, who does this full time, says he claims all income from checks, but none from cash-...I know, it's none of my business, but other people cheating on their taxes indirectly raises mine.) They also have to pay self-employment taxes, which usually works out to about 50% (because you have to pay the employer's share of the taxes as well as the employees share).  That hourly rate isn't quite so good after that, especially when you consider they don't get benefits, so they need to purchase their own health insurance (plus liability...) and have no sort of retirement matching, or paid vacation...

As for Frank Carrol- seems pretty normal for his rink.
Almost everyone listed is $40 or $35 per 20 minutes.

Coaches also have to pay for all their memberships, insurance, educational expenses and certification fees.  I would expect that an elite coach like FC would be a member of EVERY skating organization, including the ISU.
