Let's just continue, rather than grieve over the inevitable "old" forum demise

Change is never easy, and I so loved the atmosphere of the skatingforums, that I refuse to consider skatingforums "dead" and just move on to another established board and try to think of it as "new home".  So - please, can we all just continue here?

Note: at this point, while a seamless transfer of the posts from the other board may not be possible, one way or another, we *will* have access to the wealth of the information accumulated on skatingforums, as both Jim and I are working on downloading all of it.

Jim - huge thank you for spending so much time since yesterday afternoon getting the forum posts backed-up, setting this up, and so generously volunteering your resources!

It is my pleasure.  I get so much out of this forum, even if I lurk more than post.

SillyAdultSkater

Migrating, and changing nicks. :)

I honestly don't mind the forum going down but the on ice threads should be saved it's sooo much information. :) Splendid that you guys are making it into work. I don't really see a need, personally, to make old threads postable, kicking a years and years old thread can have weird effects too, imho very old threads belong in an archive but that's just me.

(ಠ_ృ)   Good day sir.

MadMac

Looking forward to enjoying this new home. Thanks for putting it all in motion!

Sk8Dreams

Huge thanks to Jim for saving the day!  And the same to Renatele, and Isk8NYC for helping!

Since we are continuing:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISK8NYC!!!!

(I too have changed names.  I was d b n y, which was so close to my old email I felt uncomfy with many posts.)
My glass is half full :)

Minerva

Thank you so much for continuing this.  I have both changed names and will try to post more instead of my usual lurking.

Sierra

I have changed my name also, used to be icestalker. icestalker was inspired by a friend who accidentally typed ice stalking instead of ice skating, but I don't like it anymore. It's creepy.  ;D

No use repeating the thanks to Jim and renatale and Isk8, but, anyway, THANKKKKKKSZZ..

I don't mind if the old threads aren't postable, so long as they can be accessed and read.

Sk8Dreams

Hi Icestalker.... :o, Sierra!  It really wasn't that creepy, because if you say it out loud it is also "ice talker," which is what I always heard when I read it.
My glass is half full :)

icedancer

Thank you all!!

icestalker, I did think that name was a little creepy...  :D

fsk8r

I couldn't cope with changing names... I'd never remember my login details...

But thank you very much for setting up a brand new home!

Looking forward to getting started again on spin clinic as I was just getting excited about the possibility of fixing them.

Tigger

Looks like I got the addy for the new place in the nick of time.

Huge thanks to Jim, Renatale and Isk8NYC for all of the hard work getting this forum up and running so quickly.  Looking forward to continuing old friendships and creating new ones.  :)

What does it mean that member introductions is listed as "private". Does that mean non-members can't post, or can't view? What about search engines?

(ಠ_ృ)   Good day sir.

Isk8NYC

It means that the forum can only be viewed by members who are signed in.  I don't think the search engines can scan them without a logon.  I haven't seen the engines set up ID's.  If they request access, I think we should prevent them from accessing the "private" forums.  Just  mho.

While our primary focus is on "figure skating for adults" or "adult figure skating," we do have some under-18 members.  Under-16 participation requires parent/guardian permission in writing.  Still, most of our members are adult ice dancers or adult figure skaters.

Hey everyone! I kept the same name as I would never remeber a different one. Thanks so much for setting these up! Looking forward to many new gems of knowledge and advice!

Thank you to Jim, renatale, ISk8NYC (and whomever else) for putting together this board.  I see already that the "skatingforums.com" link is already being redirected to here.

I have not changed my screen name either, since I've been known forever as "jazzpants."  The only other name I could think of to use besides this one is probably...*drum roll please*....*cymbal crash* "Purple Skates."
Cheers,

Yep, RSS feeds.  I haven't tried them, but please let me know if there are issues.

Also, skatingforums.com/index.php?wap2 takes you to the mobile version which is also good for slow, dial-up connections.

And, you can have an avatar...

SillyAdultSkater

Can we have a thread for bug reports? I've found two so far (rolleye smiley ::) and X instead of image on the front page, top banner, http://skatingforums.com/public_html/head1.gif ) Can't test RSS for you, I'm on a Chrome-based browser called SRIron. If I click on the RSS icon I just get directed to a page with code but I'm pretty sure SRIron doesn't even have RSS support.

Other than that, awesome work man, the forum is superbly shaping up!

SAS,
Tech section and Bug Report forum added.  That is a great suggestion.
And the x.  I tried to add a logo, but nothing changed on my log in.  Thanks for telling me.
