I don't think my DD ready to be in this level. She competed yesterday and did not do very well. She was very nervous. The other competitors were extremely good. My DD definitely has to work hard at this level.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and that was a fine skate.  She has some things to work on, but isn't that the point?

Also, not sure what you mean about the coach moving her up, you have to test to move up levels.  Was she just 'skating up' at a nonqualifying competition?  If so, that's good experience too, so that she can see what that level requires.

I agree, it was fine... I recently heard a coach say preliminary is for learning, and there should be no worry about medals or winning.

Remember too - it's early in the season - we know a lot of girls who did a couple comps already but are moving up in the next comp or two - so you have a lot of very polished looking girls in the level but they will filter out.  I would trust your coach, better to have something to work on than have it be "too easy" at a lower level, right?  She is a fun skater to watch!

My daughter also got very nervous for her competitions last year at preliminary.  There's a lot to fit into a 1.5 min. preliminary program and the double jumps are all new.   A year later, dd's double jumps are all MUCH more consistent and look much better.  She is more confident and does better in competition and everything just seems easy in comparison.

I'm sure your coach has a plan and I would just go with it. Your daughter did fine for a beginning preliminary skater and should be proud.  She has some room to grow with this program and I'm sure she will get better from here. There is always going to be a range anyway, with some just moving up and other skaters ready to move up.

Thank you for all your kind words and encouragement. I am not very knowledgeable about figure skating at all. She has not taken any free skate test. She passed pre-pre and preliminary moves in field. She landed her 1st double sal about 1 month ago and her coach wants her to skate at preliminary level. She will take both free tests in July 31st. Hopefully that she will pass.

Good luck to her with her tests!

I'm surprised she was allowed to skate preliminary, most competitions only allow you to skate up one level (so no test would skate pre-pre)- but if it was a local competition, rules are often more flexible.

She looked very good on the ice.

I think she did pretty well! Now she knows what to work on and will do that. My daughter won't move up until near the end of the season(she is working on doubles). It's always scary to move up. Pre-pre was a hard transistion for my daughter. I am hoping prelim won't be as hard but it probably will be. :) I bet by your daughter's next competition, she will do better then she did the other day. Congrats to her for moving up!
