My friend and I decided we were going to dye our laces!  This is the result of mine.

However, I need to find some laces that are a little thinner because they're a tad thick for my hooks and I double loop around my hooks to take care of the excess laces. Anyone know where I can buy the laces that the Jackson boots use or are those nylon laces? Thanks!!!!

sarahspins

The jackson ones are nylon/cotton.. I double loop around my second to top hook to take up extra lace (I don't use the top) and it just barely stays on.  100% nylon is usually thinner... except for whatever ones Klingbiel uses, those are 100% nylon but they are thicker/squishier.

Jacksons usually use the longer 120" laces too (unless your boots are smaller than a size 6 or something).. I've been tempted just to order some 108" so I don't have to double loop them.

Oh how cool - I love the blue! What color did your friend do?

davincisop

My friend hasn't done hers yet but she wants to do lime green. Her dad runs the rink so we're thinking of asking him if we can start selling colored laces lol. :)

Those look awesome!

I'd definetly look into selling them- but make sure to think about all your costs, not just laces and dye, but also electricity, water, and time! (And gas if you dye them over the stove or wear and tear on the washer if you dye them in there.)

Now I want pink laces...must go find some RIT.  Unless of course my laces aren't cotton, in which case I have a lot of acid dyes at home that will work on nylon.  Maybe I should try that first...

Ooh, I love green!  Can you post pics of hers when she does them?

Awesome and not a bad idea to try and sell some!

Skate@Delaware

Those are so beautiful! I think they would be very popular if you sold them they would do well!

We also have a rink full of tiny children who would probably coerce their parents into buying them for them. Can't say how popular they'd be among the more professional and traditional coaches but hey, that's what OTB tights are for, right? ;)

JHarer

I'd buy a hot pink pair :)

Photo from tonight :) The rhinestones sparkled like crazy in the rink lights until they turned them off. :(

You got me thinking. Would it be possible to stone boot covers?

JHarer

I love the rhinestones!

They stone tights, so why not boot covers?

Awesome idea! I am so copying this.

We have lots of skaters who have stoned their boots or their blades, but I haven't seen them on laces.

Riedell sells laces that are already stoned, but they're white stones and white laces... these are too much fun to make :)

I'm already figuring out what the next thing I can stone will be.... I'm thinking my chloe noel pants when I fit back into them lol

davincisop

I've decided I'm going to start making/marketing these on etsy and maybe at my local rink. It seems there are a few people interested here and at my rink that would wear them! :)

I will update when I've got some inventory.

Skate@Delaware

Please let us know when your "store" is up! I'm in line!!!! I know they will sell, they are really pretty! A person can always wear OTB tights if you have persnickity judges (like in my area) for testing  ;D

Yeah that's my thinking too!  I'm keeping my original laces white just in case, though I may put some clear stones on them!

What would you all expect to pay for something like this? Take into account I have to buy laces and stones as well as take the time to dye them, wash them, dry them, and stone them and package them (I'm going all out!). :) I was thinking between $10-$14 + shipping?

Skate@Delaware

Considering I'm way too busy/lazy to do them myself (hahaha) and I have no idea what new laces cost (it's been WAY too long since I've bought them), yeah I'd pay about that. Sounds like a "stocking-stuffer" type of gift and that's about what I pay for something like that.
