Post Title: Skate laces - material
Posted: 01-15-2003, 10:25 AM

What is the best material for skate laces? I see they come in cotton, a nylon/cotton blend, and nylon. Is one better than another? Thanks.

I have absolutely no idea!
Mine feel like nylon/cotton - they're tan Harlick ones.

The nylon ones tend to slip and stretch too much. I use nylon/cotton and like them, but I suspect this is a matter of personal taste.

The nylon ones hurt soo much!! They cut my fingers, so I dont use them anymore...my favorites are the cotton ones, they're really good! But I guess everyone has their own preference.

I can't use nylon either! I have to use cotton because I can't get my skates tight enough with anything else.

cotton

I like cotton because:

1. you can bleach them.
2. they don't loosen much when you skate unlike nylon.
3. they don't hurt to lace. Nylon hurt!
4. they look better in my opinion.

Cotton!

I cant use Nylon, it rips up my fingers and never stays tight enough. When I get a new pair of Klingbeils I have to change the laces right away.

Nylon pros: They don't stretch out.
Nylon cons: They can cut your hands; they can be "slippery" and loosen up as you're skating.

Cotton pros: They don't cut your hands; they can be washed and bleached.
Cotton cons: They can stretch out.

So I go for the best of both worlds -- a nylon / cotton blend!

Every skater I know has a personal opinion on this subject.

I know that Klingbeil also have cotton/nylon and may have cotton. When you get new ones next time, ask them.
