------------------

Ok fokes!!!! I now want to tell you about my experience on an Outdoor Rink today....and before we go on. I must say that in all my life. This is the FIRST TIME I've ever been on an Outdoor Rink!!! So I thought what we could do here today is (after I tell you mine),have you all tell ME about your experience on an Outdoor Rink. So here it goes...

My Staff brought me down to the site were the Rink is set-up temp. I sat down on a bench and put on my Skates. I left my Skatebag on the bench and walked up the little stairs with my Gaurds on,onto the ice. I took off my Gaurds, and laid them across the railing of the stairs to the Rink (yeah,I know. Bad idea. As other Skaters kept knocking them off onto the Snow coming in and out of the Rink. So I had to keep going on over to pick them up and lay them back on the rail,LOL). I also met this very nice girl at Rink, and she took me by the hand and helped me. As I'm not used to reg. ice,and kept falling every once in a while. LOL. I got off the ice a little after 4,and went home. BTW. can anyone please offer me any tips on how to wrap your skates up,when your washer doesn't ring the clothes out and keeps leaving soap in them. In which case you can't use towels? I was told a garbage (13gal) bag or paper bag is good. Would you all agree? Ok my fellow Skaters!!!! I now want to hear your experience. GO!!!!

FSWer

BTW. I also heard about wrapping your skates in old clothes you don't use anymore. What is a Freestylers opinion on all 3 suggestions? Also does anyone have any other ideas to offer me? Thanks.

Skittl1321

FSWer- I don't wrap my skates up in anyway, except to put soakers on my blades.

They usually stay inside my backpack- but that's just so it's easy for me to carry them.
Visit my skating blog: http://skittles-skates.blogspot.com/

phoenix

definitely don't put them in a plastic bag!! They'd stay wet & it would be bad for the leather.

FSWer

Ok,thanks. Is there anything else besides towels I CAN use, if I CAN'T use towels? Because I WAS wrapping the whole skate in a towel until the washer broke.

Clarice

You don't need to wrap them at all.  As long as you have soakers on the blades, that's all you need to do.  I just dry my blades, put my soakers on, and put my skates in my bag.  That's all most people do.

Isk8NYC

I think that, by "clothes" he means using a towel at the bottom of the bag in lieu of soakers, which he doesn't own.

Just use the same old towel over and over to rest the dried blades on, FSWer.  It doesn't have to be washed until it gets really gunky.

Or put an almost-empty roll of paper towels in your bag and dry them with one sheet/throw it away, then keep 2-3 sheets on the bottom.

FSWer

I don't hav any soakers. Just washclothes that I would use to wripe the blades whih too DO get washed. I wash my Skating things every time I come back from the Rink.

Isk8NYC

Skaters don't wash their soakers very often, FSWer, so you don't have to wash the cloths after every skating trip.
Use paper towels from the rink's bathroom to dry the skates and throw that away.  Then use the wash cloths over and over.

Make sure you're using old washcloths that you aren't going to use again.

FSWer

But don't I have to wash the towels that I bring my skates wrapped up in,in my skatebag each time I come home? Along with the washclothes so that I'm always using CLEAN towels to wrap and store my skates away in? As well as CLEAN washclothes to wipe my blades? So I'm not storing in dirty towels and wiping with dirty cloths? BTW. I lay the towels down on the Rink floor to put my blades down on. One reason I always wash my towels and cloths.

Isk8NYC

You don't have to use clean towels for all of those things - it makes laundry for no good reason.  Don't use your "real" towels and washcloths, use old rags.  Don't have to wash the towels until they get really dirty, which won't be for months.

. After you come off the ice, sit down near your shoes and take your skates off.  Put your shoes on.  You can put the skates on the floor, it's okay.
. Use a paper towel to dry the blades and skates.  (Or you can use a rag/washcloth over and over.  Don't wash it - just let it dry.)
. Leave an old towel in the bottom of your skate bag.
. Put the dried skates on the old towel inside the skate bag.  Don't wrap them up - just rest them on the old towel.
. When you get home, just leave the bag open so your skates can air out.

For a skate bag, just use an old backpack or tote bag.  Even a cloth reusable grocery bag is fine, but not a plastic bag.

Clarice

I'm sorry, FSWer - I didn't realize you didn't have soakers.  Isk8NYC is right - you don't have to wash the washcloths or whatever every time.  It's great that you take such good care of your skates, but you're making more work for yourself than you have to.
