It is not quite open yet.  It's a bit pricy but in a good location.  The most interesting thing about the website is that is promises an all-hours bar.

Does Australia have any penalties for skating under the influence? ;)

Hell no.   If you don't have a XXXX in your hand at all times, you're not a true Aussie.   At least, so I'm told ;)

Is this the rink that was first meant to open "at Christmas" (the year before last)?

It's a bit far to go for me (at least on a weekday) and it's not Olympic size, but still glad to see another rink in Sydney.

Something like that.

XXXX = barbed wire! Terrible stuff.

The docklands rink (Melbourne) has a bar, but won't let you back on the rink after you've had alcohol.  :P

Will do almost anything for pizza.

I checked it out.  They said they were in "rehearsal mode."

The story I got was that the bar will be physically attached to the rink, and drinks will be allowed on the ice.  No liquor license yet, though.

I suggested fastening the drinks to the bar and giving out straws.  Otherwise the ice will soon be funny colors.

A pop-up rink in Melbourne is offering a free vodka with each public skate.

I do not think Ice Zoo in Sydney ever got their on-ice bar.  Probably the government said no.  They do have a liquor license, though.

In the US, some rinks have bars, but not ON the rink or alongside it. They're upstairs or similar. Two of those I skate at have these. They overlook the ice. One of them near me has fantastic BBQ, actually. And they serve local beers. Which I only drink AFTER skating.

I heard it happens in America but I'm surprised it's happening here in Aus too. It seems like a recipe for disaster considering people on public sessions will fall over and crash into people plenty even whilst sober... I wouldn't want to skate with anyone who's been drinking let alone do it myself.
