I posted a few weeks ago about starting group lessons where my kids skate. It's been going well and despite being a total bundle of nerves for the first 5-10 minutes every time I step out on the ice, I am really having a great time. It's just me and a guy about my age in the class, which is followed by a really nice group of ladies in the advanced class, and everyone is really friendly. Yesterday was lesson #3 and the coach tested us both on adult 1 skills and passed us to level 2. Then we started half-swizzle pumps on a circle and I promptly fell on my butt. ;-)

Now that the kids and I are all skating, my husband is looking to buy himself a pair of hockey skates so he doesn't keep torturing himself with rentals on the weekends. I think that's great! What I find annoying is he is naturally athletic (I am not) and naturally unafraid (I am not) so my 8-year-olds have already managed to teach him how to do (messy) crossovers and to hockey stop. I just keep telling myself I have better form.

Hooray!! Congratulations!

It's hard to not compare yourself to other people. Just remember that everyone has their own set of strengths, and try to turn a blind eye and ear to the nagging voice saying, "But she's doing XYZ move and I can't!!" It's hard, I know.
