Any tips on how to keep my daughter's tongue of her skate from twisting?  When she ties she makes sure it is perfectly in place each step of the way but it still ends up twisting.  These are new skates (couple of days in) but her last ones did the same too...

Thanks in advance.  :)

Iirc, she's wearing Jackson Freestyle boots, correct?

If so, then it's probably the same issue I have with skates - the shape of my ankle causes the slip-and-twist.  Have the skate shop or a shoe repair shop install a hook in the middle of the tongue (open side down) so it can be laced along with the rest of the hooks.  Criss-cross the lace under that tongue hook and the tension will keep the tongue centered.

Klingbeil used to put a big hook on the slipping side of the tongue, so it caught the edge of the skate.  That worked fine, but it looked strange, lol.  It did stop the tongue from sliding.

On vinyl skates, this happens because the tongue is too soft - it wrinkles.  Nothing to be done about that.

You can also try changing the laces for new ones with some cotton in the fibers.  Nylon laces tend to be slippery, which allows the boot to loosen while skating and the tongue to shift.  Also, with new skates or laces, it helps to retie after a half-hour or so.

I think stock Jackson laces are cotton.  They are certainly less slippery than the alternatives I have tried.

Riedell laces are good as well, better than Jackson's, in my opinion.

No her skates are gam 1158s - (I do have one in freestyles though good memory!!)

Thanks for the tips - I'll get her to re-tie more frequently to see if that helps...

I have Jackson's too (Competitors) and while I've heard about this as a 'chronic' problem with Jacksons, it has never been so for me.  When the boots were new, they tended to slip a bit--not much--but I put an elastic band around the tongues when I put them away so they dry out with a distinct curve.  I don't know if that was the solution, or not, but they don't slip at all anymore.

Also, I have cankles, so maybe the fact that I have legs that look like they belong on a cow, means the tongues don't have the room to twist.
Yes I'm in with the 90's. I have a skating blog. http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/
