Any recent experiences?  I searched for a thread but the most recent is a year old.

A couple of former students have given me some bags of dresses to pass on since I'm the only person they know involved in skating.  I said I'd try to put them online and see if I could get anything for them and was thinking of My Skating Mall.  I see a lot of commercial listings but am wondering if people are doing well with selling their own used outfits.

I sold my ice halo there. It's a pity that the site is overwhelmed by commercial listings.

Does not hurt to list your dresses there and on eBay too. Do you have local skate swaps that carry dresses too?

An update.  I put some of the nice dresses on my Skating Mall in August.   Although apparently they had hundreds of views, they never sold.  We put them on eBay just before Christmas (there were free "best offer" listings) and they've sold.  $400 dresses for $40.  We were hoping for $100 but at least there were some sales.    I sort of feel bad for SkatingMall, but it doesn't seem like it took off - and as I've just noticed was jjane45 said, it was overwhelmed with commercial listings.

Our club is overwhelmed with dresses, I don't know if that's the experience of everyone but we have had lots of former skaters (or their moms) give us their old dresses and no one really wears them anymore.  Practice is black pants, and for the few who compete, there's been a lot of dress swapping going on.    To note, our local dressmaker no longer advertises with us since she said there is no business to be had.  We miss her sponsorship but can understand her viewpoint.

I just bought some nice dresses on ebay for cheap.  I think that honestly in some cases the resale potential of some is fairly small depending on the size/style and that is often reflected in the price.. too far out of the "child XL/adult XS" range that most young competitive skaters fit into and it seems like you almost have to find the right buyer to come along.  I got two fairly nice (and nicely stoned) dresses for less than $50 (for both, not each!)... and I almost feel bad about paying that little but they were listed as buy it now, not auctions.  One of them I am going to modify slightly and will happily wear but the other will be re-sold since the nude mesh is anything but "nude" on me.. if it was a closer match I'd be willing to deal with it being a little off, but it's probably 5 or 6 shades darker than I am and because of the stoning it doesn't seem like it would be easily replaced, but I might try if I don't find someone to buy it at our club's dress sale (coming up soon, thankfully).

Sigh. I wish they have a way of separating commercial / personal listings. I had high hopes for the site when it first came around and always promoted it. But one could rarely find anything on it nowadays.
