New guards? Practice clothes? Ice pass? Calendar of famous skaters?

I get ornaments every year for things my family has had an interest in- if you don't have an ice skate ornament, I'd get one!

I second the ornament suggestion! I have two skating ornaments I got at the Hallmark store in years past. One is a little girl ice skater wearing blue and silver, and the other is a pair of skates hanging up to dry on a fireplace mantle along with a scarf and hat. Those, alongside with the handmade ones we get in our holiday show gift bags every year, are some of my favorites.

If you can spend more, new practice wear is always nice! You just started skating, right? If you are wearing jeans to class, you won't regret getting some athletic pants that aren't so stiff and will keep you warm on the ice.

I usually go for things like gloves and guards myself.  All of my skating pants have held up very well (except the ones that are too big now) so I don't find myself needing to buy skating clothes very often.  I am a sucker for long sleeve athletic shirts with thumb holes though.. I have quite the collection and I find myself wearing them on days I don't skate too :)

I vote for skating clothes.  That is what I am getting this year.  :)

Not like running tights if you aren't comfortable wearing those- just track pants.  Way preferable to jeans.  Jeans make it difficult to move, and get really cold when wet.  If you skate a lot, you're going to want to get away from jeans.

I've skated since I was little and have done research. trust me. I know what to wear LOL  ;) :) thanks though!

I used to love skating in jeans.  When I skated in my teens it was a treat to skate in jeans.  Weird but I remember us all thinking it was a novelty and that was before stretch jeans.  :).

What about a jacket for skating in?

Guys are often analytical with skating technique. I highly recommend these books

- Figure Skating: Championship Techniques (Sports Illustrated Winners Circle Books) by John Misha Petkevich
- Conditioning for Figure Skating: Off-Ice Techniques for On-Ice Performance by Carl Poe

Of course everyone can benefit from them :D
