I would skate today if rinks in the area are open with freestyle sessions. Home rink is closed, but I totally forgot to check other rinks. Certainly skated a noon public session once at another rink on New Year's Day or something :P

What about your rinks? Are the mega training centers open every day of the year?

I skate at a mall rink.  It is public session from 10-6.  Normally on Wed we have freestyle from 4:30-6:30, so we lost that.

Yep, ours is open today, but there are no classes tonight.  They are still having camp though.

Rink's closed today and group lessons for tomorrow and Saturday are cancelled.
All camps/day care programs at the rink are not in session this week.

Both staffing and attendance are issues during holiday weeks.
Lots of people go away or make other plans.

Just got back from our mall rink.
They had normal freestyle sessions this morning. Public started at 10. For a long time I was the only one.
Kool Kamp had one attendee.
They will hold classes tonight but I am guessing only a few people will show up.

The guys that work there are totally bored.
It is a beautiful day.

Only one rink open in a 40 mile radius for FS today, so I hit it this morning early.   8) Totally empty until 7:30

My home rink does not have ice in the summer anyway, but it's always closed on most major holidays. I think we had ice on New Year's Day, though.

The next-closest rink, an hour away, actually had four hours of freestyle this morning, and a public this afternoon. I assume the public will be free, because they do free publics whenever outdoor temps hit 100. I should have planned better and gone to freestyle. I've never thought to check

The other two relatively close rinks are closed.

Mine was open until noon, but it was a figure skating camp.  I would have had to double-punch my card for any session.  The next closest rink was closed.  I went to see "Magic Mike" and am spending the rest of the day in the cool.  'Cause you know it's near 100 outside. :o

Usually none of the rinks in the area are open on holidays, but my normal rink is open all day today.  I was pleasantly surprised at how few people showed up to the freestyle session.  When there are only 6 skaters on the ice, there is tons of room to do everything!  I practiced moves, dance, jumps, and spins, and had a pretty good day (yay for no work and sleeping in, lol).

Nope, no ice here today, or I totally would have been there!  Too hot to do much of anything else!

davincisop

Nope! But I work there and I'm like family to my bosses and their daughters (the girls call me their sister), so we were allowed to go open the ice just for us and skate for a couple hours today. :) Perks of being a rink rat.

My rink was open until 330, and I believe most of the others in town were as we'll. Usually it is open on most holidays, but very often for hockey tournaments.

The rink I skate at during the summer is closed today, but the rink that I teach LTS is open ;) I taught yesterday and my group was very low in numbers.  I'm teaching tomorrow and I'm assuming numbers will also be very low.  Many of the rinks around here were open, I probably would've skated but I know I needed the day off to relax and spend some time with friends. I think that the Skating Club of Boston has ice today, I was thinking about them in response to the part of your post asking about mega training centers being open (its close to where I live)  :)
