Competition warm-up

Hello everyone!
I was just wondering how long warm up's usually are at a competition for low levels (ie no test, prepre, etc.)
I have a competition very soon but cannot find any information about how long the warm up is.

Usually 5 min.  It is on the USFS rulebook what is required, but I have seen refs cut them to 3 minutes, without telling anyone what they were doing.

You get a 1 minute warning.

It can be as short as 3 and as long as 6

All of my warmups, from Basic Skills through Preliminary, have been 3 minutes. Have you asked your coach, usually they have some idea of the usual warmup in your area.

I learned a 3 minute warm up isn't usually 3 minutes....  it's 2 minutes, then a one minute warning, and called at the end of the last 45 seconds.  They use the 15 seconds to clear the ice!  I think warm up time increases with levels though.   :D

The rulebook lists 6 minutes for singles at qualifying events and says comp announcements must include anything that differs.  So if it is shorter, the announcement should say. You can always call/email the organizers to find out.

But yeah, they are always cut a little short. I've announced for many comps and the refs always tries to speed through.

I hope you plan to spend some time practicing the warm up. My first time (although not for competition) totally caught me by surprise! :)

I've typically seen 5 minutes for freeskate events and either 4 or 5 minutes for artistic.  And the announcement didn't specify the time for either type of event nor did the posted starting orders - found out about the 4 minutes the hard way, on the ice.  I also recommend planning and practicing your warm-up for a couple of weeks before a competition.  Also practice leaving the ice shortly after the 1-minute call if you end up being the first skater (time to catch your breath, remove gloves and jacket, quick drink of water and nose blow if needed.)   Good luck!

But 3 is probably typical for the original question - it would be non qualifying - no test, prepre, etc.  So the 6 minutes wouldn't have to apply.  I've noticed dd has time to run through her program (and she is probably faster than normal since no music), she gets coach advice and then does what ever piece her coach wants her to redo and then she is called off.

IJS Rules are the 6min warmup. In the UK for non-IJS competitions it's generally program length +1min so the minimum is 2.5min (1.5min program length).
