Occasionally we all stumble across interesting skating instructional videos. Here's a place to post some, even if they're not needed for other posts.

I've posted one of this guy's videos before (in crossovers). I love the accent. I have no idea which part of england it's from. I'm going to guess it's mancunian, just because I love the way the name sounds. So you UK members tell me where he's from (if it's not Manchester).

Quote from: How To Shoot The Duck From: SK8sports | Jun 29, 2011

Start with forward stroking to gain speed. Take a forward "dip" position with the arms stretched out ahead of you and parallel to the ice. Stretch one foot out ahead of you and parallel to the ice. The skating arm will rest on the skating knee or ankle and the free arm will hold under the calf of the free leg. After performing the Shoot the Duck, place the free leg back into the dip position and stand up.

Tips:
Make sure that you are traveling in a straight line when you are starting the dip. Your eye focus should be straight ahead and not down at the ice.

Don't raise your free leg too high or it will cause you to fall backward.

This is a great strength builder and will help prepare you for sit spins.

Common Errors:
Raising the free leg too high. Standing too high when performing the extended free leg position.

Forgetting to turn out and point the toe of the free leg.

Quote from: Competitive / Advanced figure skating / How To Back Upright Extension Spin From: SK8sports | Jun 27, 2011[/quote

Description of Element:
The skater will start with a back sit spin or back spin. Then grabs the free foot with the free arm and fully extends it while spinning. The skater spins on a back outside edge.

Tips:
This spin requires great flexibility and strength. You should be very flexible and proficient with back spins. Practice the extended position off ice and also as a spiral before trying the spin.

Common Errors:
• Poor extension caused by flexibility issues or lack of strength.
• Spinning on the wrong part of the blade or rising up onto the toe pick.
• Spinning on a bent skating knee.

icoachskating.com has two videos on YouTube with some tips and clips.  Obviously, it's a teaser to promote their site and videos but it might help some of our skaters.
