Suppose you wanted to find the competitive record of a figure skater (e.g., a potential coach) .

Where would you look?

I'm thinking of something along the lines of

  http://www.isuresults.com/events

But more comprehensive, and that also includes USFS [USFSA] results.

This site

  http://www.eskatefans.com/skatabase

looks very promising, but I can't make it work.

I started by looking for a specific past coach, without success. Just to check I was doing things right, I looked for rather well known skater (Ashley Wagner), by selecting the "Ladies" category, saying the name contained "Wagner", in years beginning with "2". I cannot for the life of me get a result out of it. (After a few false starts, it blocked my IP address for a while.)

It would also be nice to look for the competitive and test results of a potential coach's students. E.g., if a coach's students usually pass the tests they take, that is a promising sign.

I understand of course that some coaches only take students who are already very good, and that most of us don't really need to be taught by world class skaters, so such results aren't the whole picture, but it is a starting point.

I just did a test using my own name and I got a reasonable number of results.  I just typed in "(my name) figure skating competition results"
What years do you think your coach was competing?  His/her current students' placements will be easier to find.  Just look up the most recent results from 2016-17 Regionals in your area on IceNetwork.com.

I take it you mean you used a search engine, like Google or Yahoo... Even if I add the year in the search, and use + and " to try to make the searches "exact", I get way too many responses for the coaches I tried - and nothing too obvious from competitions in the 1980s and 1990s. I do however, get some of the competition results that the ice dance coach did with the coach's students.

When I check out some Russian skaters who did reasonably well (without medaling) in the Russian National competitions, but didn't shine internationally, I mostly can't find them. I admit I am handicapped - I can't read and write Russian. Still...

BTW I checked out a couple other sites, which have some of what I want.

In both cases, not comprehensive. Major ISU competitions and U.S. Nationals get listed, and SOME other US competitions - mostly the most recent stuff.

I'm kind of surprised. For a lot of sports, this kind of thing is really easy to find. E.g., lots and lots of people keep track of baseball stats.
