Thought I would share our experiences with DD's new boots. With her growth spurt finished (for now anyway) we had to order another pair of custom Harlicks or try Edeas. Harlicks were a 16 week wait last time so we decided to take a chance on Edeas.

IMO going to an expert in THAT particular boot brand is going to greatly affect success so we made a 3-1/2 hour drive to the closest expert. The tech spent 5 hours on the fitting and blade mounting to get it just right. I was skeptical that a stock boot in a medium width could possibly fit my DD's custom only EE/AA foot. She tried on the Chorus and the Ice Fly, and chose the Ice Fly because the back is cut a bit lower and she seemed to have more flexibility and knee bend even thought it is technically their stiffest boot, plus the extra padding of the ice fly held her heel better. The tech widened the toe box and added heel wedges to correct over pronation.

DD's feeling is that after shaping, the Ice Fly fits her foot better then her custom Harlick did. New boot/blade and the first time out on the ice, dd's coach was impressed. She is holding the edge for jump landings more easily and her spins are faster and centered better.

The downside - cause there always seems to be one. The bottoms of her feet hurt - ball is the worst, then heel, then arch. The toe box isn't too narrow, that feels great to dd and she is sensitive to a boot being too tight. I think it has to do with the higher heel and different shaped sole. The skate tech said it can take 1-2 weeks for her foot to adapt to the new shape but call him if pain is extreme or after two weeks she is still struggling. Because we added the heel wedge, we've raised her heel even slightly higher. I'm going to try cutting a piece of 1/16" leather and placing in under her toe/ball area to raise that part of her foot up a bit to compensate for the heel wedge and see if that helps. Otherwise, I thought I read that Edea's black undersoles are good for skaters having pain on the bottom of their feet. Superfeet are another option, I would prefer not to go to custom orthotics if we don't have to.

I'll update over the next couple of weeks, I thought it might be helpful for those considering Edeas.

And because I'm a picture girl, here are some photos. Notice the pinched in heel at the top and the widened toe box. The skates really can be custom shaped. I taped over the toes to keep them looking new, at least for now.

Glad to hear your daughter is doing well in them!

I will say that's the one thing I had to change in my Ice Flies was the footbed. I put my superfeet in and it helped IMMENSELY. I have a medium/high arch and needed the support that the orthotic offered. I was already raised up in my previous skates due to how I had my orthotics set up (without the height I felt like I was sitting far down in my heel and my balance was off).

Isn't it astounding how much they can be shaped? I have an E/EE width foot and a narrow heel and the fitter was just having a field day showing me how wide they could get.

Thought I would give a quick update for anybody considering Edeas.

These are AWESOME! DD is one month in, and with a bit more fine tuning from the skate tech, she loves them and her coach loves them on her. We had a bad experience with Edea in the past, but it had to do with the skate tech not knowing what he was doing. Different guy, different results.

We had them widened again, the heel pinched in slightly, and the extra little bone below the ankle punched out. We tried different insole options and combinations and ended up with changing the angle of the cork wedges by sanding one and building up the other (she pronates differently for each foot) and taped a makeup sponge below the insole in the arch area for extra cushioning.

Skates are comfy, hold her heel more securely, and she is skating better then ever. Success! And it's off the shelf so when she grows there isn't a crazy long wait for customs. I'm so glad we decided to give Edea another try.

I'm not as advanced a skater as to need Ice Flies but I've just bought myself a pair of the Edea Overture boots with  Coronation Ace cross pick blades and at first my foot ached madly too.  The arches were the worst and then the ball of my feet.  I slackened the laces off and that made a huge difference.

Like DD, although I've only had them a short while, these new boots have made such a difference, my spins are so much better - I was having real problems with centering in my old boots.  I wonder how I managed for so long with the old ones!!!
