I should be getting my custom Riedell boots in less than 2 weeks. I still have not decided on a blade. I'm returning to skating after a 14 year absence. I won't be doing more than single jumps as I'm 65 years old and want to compete into my 70's. I'm 5' 7" and weigh 162 pounds. I've read that one's weight is considered when choosing blades.

My coach says I've been away from skating for a long time and I can get used to anything at this point. She suggested considering the Coronation Ace, Pattern 99, or Gold Seal. But, didn't make any firm recommendation. She doesn't know of anyone who uses the revolution blades.

The fitter tells me to talk to my coach for suggestions.

For some reason, probably intuition, I'm leaning towards the Mk Professional or MK Professional Revolution. I read that the Revolution blades are lightweight and cushiony, which is good for jumps. But, they make a funny noise when landing and because they are lightweight, one has to push harder to obtain edges.

I would really appreciate suggestions.

This is your first pair of blades (well, sort of!), probably not your last!  Why not stick with something basic like the CorAce or Professional while you get your legs back?

I'm thinking of the MK Professional. But Professional or Professional Revolution? I wonder if it is true that you need to put more pressure on the Revolution models because they are lightweight?

Why would a blade, which is a tiny fraction of your weight, determine how hard you have to push on it?

Personally Professionals are a great all around blade, and work perfectly fine even up through the double jumps. I've warn them most of my skating life and love them. The Coronation Ace is very similar and compatible to the Professionals. So between those two blades it just comes down to the company you prefer. However, I would suggest staying away from the Pattern 99 or Gold Seals these tend to be geared to  more advanced skaters, doing high level doubles and triples and even quads. I would actually be afraid of the toe rack on the P99.

Let your heart and soul guide your blades

At this point, I'm set on getting the MK Professional blades. But, regular or revolution? There is very little information around on the revolution style blades.

I think it's your call!  Sounds like you're curious about the revs.  So why not?  Or stick with the regular model this go-around and switch for the next pair.  Then you'll have a basis for doing the comparison yourself!

MK 6 week exchange from the MK website:

"When purchasing a pair of Revolution or Parabolic blades we give you a 6 week period to ensure it's the right blade for you.
If during this time you feel it's not right, simply return to your dealer where you can exchange for a new pair of MK traditional blades."

I made a decision to buy the MK Professional Revolution blades. I will post a follow up to let everyone know how I like them.
