I'm starting to see slight bruising on my ankles, right where the tongues of the boot hits me as I bend low into my knees. It doesn't hurt at all, it's just there and was wondering if this is something to be concerned about, or if I should be taking steps to prevent or care for this issue.

Thank you!

A lot of skaters (myself included) wear ankle gel sleeves to prevent rubbing and pressure on delicate ankle area.  If there is bruising- there is tissue damage.  While it may not hurt now, it can later.

Bruising or blistering or just plain rubbing?
I get slight rubbing, almost like bruising, but my skin just thickens up over time like a callouse. Cutting in at the sides is really bad, and should be addressed asap. If you can keep the skin from breaking, then just allow it to toughen up with use and time. I normally skate in footed tights or very thin socks. No issues at all, now that my skates are punched out and heatmoulded and broken in.

ankle gel sleeves +1
especially if the skates are relatively new and stiff

what skates do you have?

Doubletoe

Gel ankle sleeves ASAP.  While you're waiting for the bruise to heel, you might also add a gel disk under the ankle sleeve.  SKate shops sell them, and so does Amazon.com.  Two common brands are Bunga pads and Silippos.

Yes, use the gel pads! And get that ankle area punched out on your skate!
