Do you think practicing correct technique off ice can help correct poor technique on ice?

How long do you think it takes to correct a bad habit?

sarahspins

Yes, I definitely think so, and it usually takes longer to unlearn a bad habit than it does to acquire it in the first place.  How long exactly it takes to overcome it depends on the skater and the coaching they receive (and their ability to apply what they're told to do).

It's a good thing she isn't frustrated.  :D  Her technical coach though...let's hope. ;)  She needs to focus a bit more.  I wish she had a full mirror in the house!

Just a fully body mirror?  Those are pretty inexpensive at Walmart.

Now if you want full wall mirrors like a dance place, that's not as easy.

I'd love half of a wall to be mirrored.

I agree that practicing correct technique off ice can improve on ice technique.  I'd love to have a room in my house that was mirrored like a ballet studio lol I love skating at rinks that have mirrors..unfortunately there aren't too many, the only one I'm able to skate at that has mirrors at the far end is the skating club of Boston, although its rather high so you really have to catch a glimpse of yourself from afar:(

Post/check on craigslist or freecycle and see if someone is tossing some of those mirrored closet doors from the 70's ;)

hopskipjump

That is a good idea about used mirror closet doors!

We have skated a a rink without boards and with one wall a huge mirror.  It was so pretty!  Dd was a lower level at the time so I don't think she used it to the fullest.

IKEA also has some pretty large mirrors that aren't that expensive (check the bathrooms section).

I only know this because we're redoing our bathroom with IKEA :)
