I am in need of a new pair of blades soon. What do I do with the old ones? They are too worn down to re-sell.

Is there such a thing as blade recycling?

In your town is there a recycling center? If so, they probably have a spot for steel and metals.

They don't weigh enough to bother with selling them for scrap, so a recycling center is probably your best option :)

Could you give them to someone who wants to practice sharpening without worrying about ruining someone's blades?

That could be an excellent use of them, but most sharpeners "learn" and later "practice" in the never-ending supplies of rental skates at most rinks - a majority of which are always in need of sharpening :)

True!  (I was told at my rink's pro shop that they train the new guys on the rental skates... and about the only time the rentals get sharpened is when they have a new guy to train.)  I guess I was thinking more of someone who wanted to learn to sharpen their own skates but didn't work in a shop with access to a lot of rentals to play with.  I think there was a conversation elsewhere on the board about that recently but I don't remember details...
