Hey guys, so I'm in the market for buying new boots because the current reidell that I have are killing my ankles from no support. So my issue is this. I m going to be buying the boot this month the jackson elite supremes and unfortunately it's going to wipe me dry of cash and won't be able to buy new blades. The current blades that I have now are eclipse astra blades that came with my 910ls. So my question is this. If I buy the boots and I put on the astra blades would that mean that if when it came to purchase new blades and the holes don't match would that be a problem for the blades to mount on the boot? Sorry I'm ignorant in this topic.

It will not be a problem.  The holes don't have to match - in fact they almost never do when putting on a new blade of any kind.  The person who mounts them will just put in new holes.

TropicalSk8ter

Ok so just to confirm. If I mount the recreational blades on first it won't be a problem for when I mount the new blades even if the wholes don't match.  There are no chances that the boot will be damaged I hope.

I understood the question.  It should not be a problem to first mount one pair of blades, take them off and have to put in new holes for the next blade.  People that mount blades do it all the time.  You might have to plug the old holes.

FigureSpins

Yes, icedancer is right.  To swap blades, the skate tech removes the old ones, plugs the holes and then mounts the new blades, making new holes that match the new blade plate.  You  need a good skate tech, though.

Personally, I wouldn't put the Astra blades on new boots.  They're low-level rec blades.

Ask the fitter about buying a pair of used blades and check eBay/Craigslist/myskatingmall for a good pair of all-purpose blades instead.

Good ideas re: buying used blades!  That is what I would do - what size do you wear? I might have a pair to sell you! (10 1/4)

TropicalSk8ter

My current size in the recreational eclipse astra says it sizes a  11 1/4

Also, the Jackson blades are very affordable. I got the Legacys when I ordered my elite supremes (great boot, I'm at breakdown point 3 years later though) and they were only about $250.

I would look on ebay and also myskatingmail.com

I will look for you... my day off... raining...

Icedancer thank you for the action but please dont look I dont want to waste your time. I cant really afford no blade at the moment. The boot has literally left me completely dry for the time being.

Thanks - I didn't see anything on ebay but will keep an eye out - I am blade obsessed.

I saw some Majestics on MySkatingMail.com for about $130 - this is a low-level freestyle blade but may be more within your price range.

Where in the world are you?

$130 isnt bad but I think im going to have to hold out for a bit better blade. Im thinking about the axel express.  Stainless steel with a $200 price tag is Ok with me.

the coronation ace equivalent for the skate science blades. they have a horrible webpage but supposedly there blades are good. the axel express is their most recent blade. however I'm sure you've already googled axel express and you already know all about it. LOL i would since I'm blade obsessed as well.  :D

You may want to wait until the boots come in before you buy blades - different manufacturers can sometimes have slightly different sole sizes that require a slightly shorter or longer blade than your old boots.  They are likely pretty close, but I'd hate for you to buy a blade that didn't fit your new boots!

I actually think I have an old pair of 11.25" Coronation Aces, used but plenty of life left. If they fit your new skates, I'd be willing to sell them to you. And cheap as they're just sitting around right now.

That sounds great.  How much is cheap lol?

I used to skate in the Reidell 910LS too, and recently switched to Jackson Elites. My 10.25" Coronation Aces no longer worked (too long), and I switched to 9.75" MK Pros. So I agree, don't be surprised if you have to get smaller blades. I also don't mind selling my aces as they're just sitting in my closet at the moment. But I doubt you would need such a big change in size.  ;)
