Professional music cuts - how much do they cost?
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:01:28 AM »
Some skaters receive program music from coach free of charge, some cut their own music, and some seek professional help for best results. I've been wondering what is the going rate for professional music cutting services and what factors into the cost? (complexity? music length? deadline?...) Thank you for sharing!

I know a coach whose husband does it VERY cheaply, $20 for under 2:15, and then it goes up incrementally. I'm not sure if he is exactly a "professional," but he does an excellent job and has pro-level software. From what I've heard, it sounds like an excellent value for the time he puts into it.

I charge $25 for a cut and include two CDs, one being a Lightscribe.  I started cutting music when I was a teenager with a CD and tape player and now use Audacity.

My coach cuts my music; she charges $30 for one piece of music.  I was just talking to the manager of the rink where I coach, and he wants to start cutting music again.  He said he used to charge $20 per piece of music.  I'm interested to see what the going rate is around the country.  When I competed as a kid, my dad did all of my music; he's actually expressed interest in getting into it for other skaters, as he's retired now and the kind of guy that needs to stay busy busy busy ;)
