Hi can anyone please help?   ???

It is a spin where you spin on the right foot (like a back spin) but then your free leg goes from back spin to tuck across, at the back of the spinning leg to come out the other side. The hands are varied, I have seen a tilted head back version and a 90 degree one with one hand right up above the head. Does anyone know what it is called and any tips on how to do it? Is the free leg supposed to be straight because I am struggling to keep it straight. Thanks!

theexodus

That is it. thanks!

Is the free leg supposed to be straight or bent? I have great difficulty straightening it, do you know why?

techskater

it should be straight.  I could take many guesses as to why you are having a hard time straightening it, but without seeing it, telling you why would be like p-ing in the wind.   :P

Well I think the butt has something to do with it. Or the rest of the body. Sigh it is hard to describe. Do you have any specific technique advice you could impart?

MadMac

You have to really turn the free leg in from the top of the leg & stretch it under/behind the skating leg. The free foot is flexed, sickled (cycled??) and pigeon-toed. Feels like you're trying to push your heel down to the ice. Turn the torso hard toward the skating side and let the free hip poke out.
. . . now rub your tummy & pat your head  ;)

Practice getting into the position at the boards. Remember the skating side has to push too, like it is trying to meet the free side - SQUEEZE

theexodus

which side is the free hip? i skate ccw. :P

MadMac

Free hip, free leg, free arm = the non-skating side, the side free from the ice.

Sorry -- should have said the skating hip pokes out a bit.
