You know you're getting old when "this too shall pass" becomes your mantra, lol.  It helps to rehearse your speech in advance.

My oldest daughter was in a Show Choir at her high school.  (She has a beautiful voice.)  The all-girl group wears evening gowns every year, which they rent.  The cost includes year-end cleaning and repairs, but they performed six or seven times, so the $100 rental fee was really well-worth the price.

sorry to imply the director was running a scam.  That was not my intent using the word.  I think the OP's rink management are trying to put on an extravagant show without little loss to the company.  It's not a scam in the sense of "can I deposit $1M into your bank account" type of scam!   I do agree that it's a business venture that will fail but you don't have to take the ride with them.  Perhaps that's the best way to put it!  I also highly agree to take the high road on this!!  Definitely do not share your opinions with others parents as you NEVER know exactly who's side someone is on!

Isn't that the truth?  I had one nutty swimming parent say something that really ticked me off.  I whined about it to someone who I thought was a good friend.  Turns out the woman was the cousin of the nutty one...

You may be right, but I still wouldn't say it "out loud."  Better to see trouble coming down the road and turn left to avoid the collision.  If others follow suit, fine, but don't recruit.

I say it's one's civic responsibility to make your concerns known to relevant parties IF there is strong evidence that illegal or unethical activities are involved. But do so smartly and subtlety as there is no alternative rink in the area.
