My coach recently told me it would be wise to invest in a pair of nice skates as I become more seriously with my skating (i am in basic two officially). However I don't even know what to look for in a "good skate." right now i use bladerunner solstice.

I,would greatly appreciate more information on skates as well aak when is a good time to step into a nicer skate. Thanks!

Riedell has a great tool on their site that recommends skates by level. :) You're not going to need super stiff ones yet but when you start learning jumps (waltz jump, bunny hop, etc) having some support in your skates will be crucial. :)

JHarer

Riedell 115RS or 121RS

Jackson Artiste or Mystique

Harlick classics

would all be a good choice.

Just remember when you go to try on skates to try on some of each of the brands mentioned (and others too if you can find them).  It may mean you have to visit more than one pro-shop, but the inconvenience is worth it for the health and comfort of your feet.  Each brand fits differently, and eventually you will find that one brand will fit you better than the others.  Don't be sold into a brand because it's all the fitter keeps.
