Which skates should I buy?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a new pair of skates as I have long outgrown my old skates and want to start skating again. I used to figure skate for about 2-3 years, but I won't be doing many spins/jumps in my new skates. Should I get the Jackson Mystique, Artiste, or Classique? I've decided I want to go with Jacksons because I've tried other brands but they just didn't fit as well. So far I've only tried on the Classiques and they are quite stiff. Are they too advanced for my level or should I invest in them?

Thanks!

P.S. I am a university student, going to be turning 20 very soon :)

I've never had any of those, but if you have skated before and are not tiny, I would think Mystique and Artiste will be too soft.

Don't be so certain you will not jump or spin.

As always, a visit to a good fitter can help a lot.

What level are you at right now?

Thanks for the replies!

I only skated for a couple of years. When I stopped, I was working on my axel.

Do you have a good fitter in the area? I would go to them if you can. Have you worn jackson before?

ninjali

I'm close to Toronto so I can go to the Figure Skating Boutique, and no I've never worn Jackson before!

While I'm no expert by any means I would recommend seeing a fitter as others did :). I just saw one last week for the first time and am seeing him again tomorrow now that my skates are in. He wow'd me with his knowledge and you definitely want to be comfortable with the pair you purchase getting back into it! Welcome back to skating :D

Here's a link with a chart of what skates are appropriate by level. https://www.kinziescloset.com/Compare_Ice_Skates.html

In general, recommendations listed online are based on kids, not adults, and some find they need stiffer boots than what is listed bc of height/weight or how hard they are on their skates

when choosing skates consider not only skating ability but also age (is the skater still growing, if yes they will have the opportunity to buy another stiffer pair as the feet grow, you will not be growing, you don;t want to get skates that will be breaking down in six months), height and weight (two skaters of the same ability if one weights 100 pounds and the other is 200, they will need different strength skates.) And I agree with the above, if you were working on axel before and you are the young age of 20, I predict you will be jumping and spinning and soon! Follow the advice of others and seek out an experienced fitter. new skates are an investment, you want to do all you can to get the right pair.
