I'm returning to skating after a 12 year absence due to knee problems. I'm a medical research scientist and found a way regrowing the cartilage. So, I'm ready. I have wide feet. In the past, I needed custom boots and went to Klingbeil (1997). This time, I was annoyed that they don't talk to you on the phone. Also, many people say that Don Klingbeil is no longer there and the company is not the same. So, I found a fitter for the Riedell 435TS custom boots and ordered them. I hope they are as good or better than the Klingbeil. At least with Riedell, I can talk to the person who will make the boots (Lee).

The fitter won't order blades until he gets the boots, which makes sense. So, I have 4-5 weeks to make up my mind. I'm currently debating between the Riedell Eclipse Mist or MK Professional blades. I skate Freestyle 2. I'm 65 years old, 5' 7'', 162 pounds and don't plan to stake higher than Freestyle 2 as I hope to skate into my 80's and with my anti-aging technology, I probably will.

I would appreciate suggestions/advice on the blades.

I'm counting the minutes until my feet touch ice again.

I think either of those blades would be fine for your level.  What did you skate on previously?

I'm interested to hear about your technique for regrowing cartilage!

I previously skated on either gold seal or gold star. I bought them in 1997.

I found a cure for migraine headaches by developing a biochemical model of migraine.  I developed further biochemical pathways as part of cancer research. Much of those pathways apply to sports. I put it all into a computer program called Biometabolic Analysis.

I only get about 1 migraine patient every 3 months. So, since sports is my passion, I'm going to putting my efforts into sports performance.

I'm younger than you are (27), but I'm also returning to skating after an absence, and I wore Klinbgbeil's for awhile. I've also got some knee problems (ACL reconstruction 8 years ago), so I wanted to wait to put a serious blade on my skates until after I started to feel more comfortable on the ice again.

Anyway, I went with Risport RF2's and the MK Professional. I was able to do all my single jumps back first time on the ice with them, except for the axel (which I've been reluctant to try). I think it's a good compromise for me, and I also expect these blades to stay on my boots until I start attempting to get my double axel back (and who knows when that will happen). These blades are nice! I had Gold Seals before as well, and this is definitely a downgrade, but since I'm not going to be doing triples anytime soon it's not that noticeable.
