questions about empire waist dresses

Hello, I'm wondering if there are issues with empire waist dresses for freeskate programs... I'm looking for a dress for my daughter (age 10 and very small). We're looking at this dress below.

I was wondering whether or not the extra length of the skirt gets in the way when doing jumps and spins. If so, are there ways to blind stitch the skirt down so that it doesn't billow so much, or will that look odd? Thanks in advance for any insight anybody might be able to share...

Hello, I am an adult skater who frequently wears empire waist dresses for practice and competition.  I've not had any problems with them at all.  As an adult, I like longer length skirts.  In terms of volume at the hem, empire waist dresses usually have less volume (not sure how to describe that!) than a typical half or full circle skirt on a figure skating dress.   I think the empire waist style flows nicely on the ice.

A dressmaker friend of mine has said that there are ways to keep an empire dress from floating up: tacking the side seams loosely to the body portion, or putting tiny ball bearings inside the hem to weight it down and some other tricks I don't remember.  So there are ways to fix the skirt if it does prove to be an issue.  The picture is a beautiful dress.

The dress is beautiful! But if you're concerned about the skirt flying up, there should be ways to fix that, as blue111moon had said.
