So, yeah pretty much off topic. But I'm utterly convinced that long term, slalom skating is going to get more and more artistic, also to the point where there will be some overlap with figure skating (hence why I'm simultaneously learning both).
Undeniably, it still has a LONG way to go, but I'm beginning to see it happen, and it's coming out of China:

Combines the artistry of figure skating with the precision of figures. I love it.

Only 12 I think?, and already European junior champ for the last 3 years. 2nd junior at worlds last year. Only lost out to Feng Hui https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfCuo7MZngw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfCuo7MZngw).
I think she's going to be a major thorn in the side of the otherwise dominant Chinese skaters in years to come. Assuming she doesn't defect to Ice.
Skaters of all disciplines seem to be getting really good
really young these days, e.g. Anna Schrebakova (also 12) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhE_5Up4YuM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhE_5Up4YuM). Makes you sick doesn't it ;)
