So whats in your skating bag? :D
I have a Nike duffle bag, in there I have:
- Jackson's Marquis
- black soakers
- skate guards
- 2 pairs of skate socks (knee high)
- a cloth to wipe blades
- lace puller/tightener
- skate pants (nike)
- hoodie
- 2 pairs of gloves (with fingers and fingerless)
- a binder with skating stuff in it
- bandaids
- chapstick
- screwdriver thingy
- earphones
- gym shoes
I think we already have a similar thread somewhere, but that's okay...I have a transpack ice with blue flowers, and it's got:
- Jackson Premieres
- 3 pairs of knit gloves - I have about a million pairs and routinely switch them around
- Either my maroon Under Armour Virginia Tech practice jacket or my club jacket
- Blue towel
- Soakers
- Purple guards
- CDs for my two programs
- A bunch of pens
- A notebook that's falling apart
- Arm warmers
- Leg warmers
- One pair of Rainbo skating socks in case I decide I don't want to skate barefoot
In my bag is...
My Wifa skates
Multiple pairs of tights which have collected there from competitions and test days
A few mismatched gloves
A few mismatched socks
Pair of guards
2 pairs of blades covers (no idea why)
Leg warmers (possibly only 1)
Random tags from competitions
Random paperwork for the synchro team
A few schrunchies and elastics
Extra pair of laces
Skate polish and tape
Nothing :P I have a locker at the rink now...
However, in my locker...
My Skates (Jackson Elite Supreme w/ Phantom Profile Paramount blades)
My old skates (as backup, just in case)
2 pairs of guards
Extra pair of laces
8 or 9 "pairs" of gloves (I think only about half of those match)
My coach's jacket
Towel (sometimes.. for whatever reason this tends to disappear, usually into my daughter's zuca)
Box of tissues
Hair elastics
Hair brush
Green Scrunchie
Christmas lights
Magnum Sharpie
2 Jumbo Washable Marks-a-Lot markers
Lots of tiny candy canes
A disturbingly large collection of mints from Sonic
Several fortune cookie fortunes
One 2012-2013 basic skills year badge
Extra pair of contact lenses
Spare meter
Spare infusion sets
Tape
Scissors
Nail clippers
Advil
Part of a sheet of EVA foam (my footbed modification material of choice)
Screwdriver
Extra SS Screws
Assortment of bunga sleeves
3 mondor skating socks (yeah, I lost one...)
several pairs of cheap knee highs
Homemade butt pad (only one.. I've lost the other, but I rarely use them so it doesn't matter)
I have a LL Bean skating bag. In it is...
Oberhamer skates with terry cloth soakers on
a pair of Baurer skate guards - basic rubbery type, with the plastic covered spring to hold onto the heel part of the blade
three skating towels
a pair of black knee socks (my favorite skating socks)
a water bottle
two granola bars
a pencil
a piece of scrap paper (for miscellaneous notes)
a pair of fuzzy pink gloves
a pair of fuzzy black gloves
a pair of smooth cream gloves
96 cents in change
chapstick
various bracelets from public skate sessions at the Rec. center rink
two champion cords
a loop of string for making the champion cords longer for some exercises

And now removed from the skating bag...
a ball of kitchen twine (for making extension loops)
a long twist tie
two pieces of Halloween candy
one partly squashed Lindt ball (chocolate)
one glow bracelet (why was it in there???)
hiking stick medallion for Lost River Gorge (why was that in there???)
a cute trivet with a skating penguin on it - my coach gave it to me as a holiday gift yesterday
wrapping paper and a card to go with the trivet
When actually heading out to the rink I add:
a warm hat
warm, fleece gloves
Do you guys really keep all that stuff in your bag? I really don't have much:
My pair of skates - GAM Select with Ultima Legacy blades
One light pink pair of soakers
One hot pink pair of blade guards
Two small towels (for wiping the blade)
And that's it!
Socks stay at home and are on my feet as I leave
Extra gloves live at home too and one pair goes into my pocket as I leave
Packet of tissue in my pocket too
If I'm going straight to lab after skating, then I have another bag that contains my change of clothes. My skate bag can only hold skates.
I'd love to have a Transpack but I don't know what I'd put in it! It's so large.
I have an Ogio duffel bag - I'm sure there's more than this, but this is what I can think of currently:
- Harlick skates
- At least 4-5 pairs of gloves (I've been wearing two pairs it's so cold!)
- Ear band
- 2 hard guards
- 2 towels
- 1 pair soakers
- Board bag, which contains water bottle, kleenex, CD case, iPod, and hip pad
- multi-headed adjustable screwdriver
- square head screwdriver
- FS tickets
- Two pairs of Bunga ankle sleeves, plus one torn up pair of Silipos (as in, I literally tore it into strips to put under certain parts of my Bunga pads)
Currently I also have my coach's card/gift, but that's only there until my lesson Thursday!
I have a Zuca bag - which has been a seat for me on more than one occasion:
Skates - Jackson Premiere (soon to be replaced with new Jackson Premiere skates one width smaller)
Green fuzzy soakers
1 pr silver skate guards(also soon to be replaced with new guards)
2 black odor out things that I put in my skates to get rid of the smell
1 ugly red spare pair of gloves
1 pair cute penguin mittens for helping with LTS
1 pair black gloves with magic touch for Saturdays when we use my iphone as music
1 cord to attach to sound system at Saturday rink
1 champion chord
ISI Rule/Handbook latest addition
My homemade skating corrections book
Several music cd's from various tests/competitions - never took them out
3 skate rags for wiping blades
2 "nude" colored trouser socks
3 washable markers
2 pkgs of stickers
Lace puller/tightner
Screwdriver set from a competition
$8 - exact change for public skate (some days it's $5 and some it's $3)
Bronze Moves and FS pins are proudly pinned to the front of my bag
Mind if I recycle this (http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/2011/11/whats-in-your-boot-bag.html) for laughs?
(Reminder, while I'm off ice, clean out the boot bag)
Keep in mind I have only been skating for 6 weeks... All of the other posts are giving me ideas for additions. Not so sure whether this is a good thing, though.
I currently have a gray and teal backpack (though I have been told a Transpack is a possible Christmas gift)
1 pair of Jackson Mystique skates
1 spare pair of gray gloves
1 pair navy blue soakers
2 towels to wipe blades (white w/ blue, green, and teal polka dots)
Kleenex
Infusion kit (band aids, needles, syringe, gauze, alcohol wipes, tourniquet)

I don't keep anything with me that I don't need on at least a semi-regular basis... I had actually collected far more random "junk" in my Zuca bag when I still used it than I have now.
I used to have more things like printed MITF diagrams but I have all of those memorized through intermediate now and some of novice.
Well, I've been skating just over 6 weeks, and in my (pink and black) skate bag, I have:
Jackson Mystique figure skates
Soakers (purple - currently on blades)
2 part hard guards (purple, sparkly)
1 Pair pink fingerless gloves
Wrist guards
Elbow pads
Knee pads
Skate UK Record of Achievement
Practice book (small red book with notes from my coach about various things to remember)
Purse (only in there when I go to the rink)
iPod shuffle (pink - for the bus ride to and from the rink)
2 pairs boot covers (1 white, 1 purple)
A chamois for wiping my blades
I also have, but don't store in my bag, a purple "Keep Calm and Carry On" hoodie that is my skating jacket, and has my Skate UK achievement badges sewn on to it (must sew Level 3 badge on)
Hmm, I carry a lot of stuff!
I have a purple skating bag. To customize it, I added an embroidered skater's luggage tag and a mini skate guard keychain. Inside we have:
* Custom Harlick skates
* Lavender soakers
* White "pearl" hard guards
* Sneaker balls for deodorizing
* Spare laces
* 2 pairs of gloves (chenille)
* Diagram for keeping edges straight
* Elastic hair bands (for top skate hooks)
* Handkerchief
* Hand towel for drying blades
* Extra pill case for my medications
* Crasche hat
* Skate lacing hook
* Bunion pads (stick-on)
* Kleenex
* Breath mints
* Blistex (lip balm)
* Pen
* Bottle of water
When I leave, I toss in my keys, wallet, and iPhone, as well. Surprisingly, it's not heavy or difficult to carry.
I received a new skate bag for Christmas so I've cleaned the old bag out. Now I have skates, soakers, rag, gloves and knee pads. Funny thing about the bag-DH and I rarely exchange gifts and we haven't had the kids buy for us until this year. DS had bought me an ornament at the library santa store but when DH brought home the bag-DS claimed that as his gift. I guess he knew what mom would really want!
Well, mine is still sitting by, unused since December 5th :(
It's a black wheelie suitcase. I bought it from Big W two years ago for just $19  It is now missing one foot and doesn't stand up too well. Dragging it through Melbourne Airport at speed wasn't very good for it. :sweat
- skates, in soakers
- hard guards
- hand towel for drying blades
- large towel for drying self in case of splashdowns
- skipping rope
- spare laces (three pairs)
- bandaids (I am very clumsy)
- screwdriver
- deodorant
- Aussie Skate booklet
- music on CD
- nail clippers
and I leave my wallet/keys/phone in it when skating.
I keep my skating bag simple:
skates w/ soakers
hard guards
small towel for wiping blades
waxel pads and knee pads
boot covers
extra pair of socks
gloves
camera
Okay, that wasn't exactly as short as I thought it would be. :p
I've got to go from memory because my bag is at the rink. I cleaned it out last week, so there's less there.
- Pair of Jackson Elite Plus with Coronation Ace blades
- Pair of old model Jackson Elite Plus (not near as good as newer model!) with brand new never-skated-on Graf Luasanne blades (plan to use for rink guard job so my "real" skates won't break down extra fast... I had figures blades on them which I can't guard in, but got these Graf blades half price)
- Pair of Gold Test figures blades in the Graf blades box
- Pair of small gloves (had 2 but lost a pair recently)
- Couple of deoderizer balls to put in boots
- Very old Soakers on the skates
- Small hand cream (I use it on my toes because I hate my toes my toes rubbing together with friction)
- Albuterol inhaler for asthma
- Tube of Aspercreme
- Tube of Anbesol which I use on my huge bunion so it doesn't hurt
- Bottle of ibuprofen
- Random money (took about $12 out today, but there's some more)
- Half a book of skating coupons (discounted admission rate)
- Cloth for drying skates
- A pair of dirty nylons
- A couple pair of clean nylons
- Hair scrunchies
- Box of Puffs tissues
- Bottle of Gatorade
- Small piece of memory foam
- Bandage tape
- Couple of phone numbers

I may have missed a couple items.

more cd's
Sky blue Jackson bag:
1) Jackson Marquis skates
2) Black centipede-style guards
3) Black soakers
4) Black gloves
5) Towel to wipe my blades
In my purple Zuca, I have:
-Riedell 255 TS skates
-Red soakers
-Purple hard guards
-Towel for drying skates
-3 pairs of gloves
-Boot covers
-Hairbrush
-Lipgloss

My skating bag is an old book tote that is basically one compartment, and it usually has:
- my skates (Riedell 110) with blue soakers on
- headband
- gloves
- socks
- lip balm
- mp3 player
I can think of more things I'd like to add to that (like tissues and a towel), but that's it for now.

- Teal soakers
- Purple hard guards (that are now too long for new skates... that's this week's project)
- towel
- gloves
- pair of trouser socks (plus a couple single mismatched socks since I have a habit of losing single socks)
- champion cord
- black sharpie (why, I don't know)

Very vintage. I wish I could remember exactly what year my parents bought them for me - my best guess is 1982. I skated on them through April or May of 1985, skating about 50 hours a year. Then they went largely unused until I resumed skating last winter. (I am guessing that I am skating on the oldest skates of anyone on the forum. :) )
The boots are still in good shape, but I know they won't last forever. I am dreading the time when wear out - skates of today are seem soooo much stiffer to me when I've poked and prodded at them in the skate shop while waiting for my skates to be sharpened.
I don't when Oberhamer went of business. Does anybody know what year they folded? A quick google search did not turn up an answer.
Me, I have a black transpack backpack with:
My Riedell Elite Royal 900 skates (2003 model I believe, and with almost four years on 'em), blades covered in black soakers with seatbelt-like material on the bottom
Folder for coach's notes and other materials (pen, blank paper, recent test sheets, step patterns, USFS MIF rulebook, latest program music CD)
Old, faithful translucent blue glitter hard guards clearly marked with my maiden name :P
Phillips head screwdriver
Lock for the rink's locker
Travel-size pack of facial tissue
Two matching pairs of gloves
Hard (rollerblading) wrist guard
Knee/Elbow pad (it's whatever I need it to be, when I need it at all)
Combo hip/knee pads I made from scratch to imitate those pricey Clear Clouds, fashioned from their patent filing drawings and 3/16" Akton gel padding material I bought at a fraction of the cost
Athletic tape and foam liner tape for it, just in case...
That's it! That's enough.
DD # 1:
Two pairs of gloves - matching.
Pink fuzzy skate drying towel.
Skates
1 pair soft covers
2 pairs of hard guards.
4 missing socks - mismatching

1 backup CD for each program
1 pair of giant skate guards
1 pair of (mismatched) soakers
0 skate drying towels (grrr)
2 pairs of socks that are supposed to be thrown out
1 random skate lace (they don't break in pairs, which probably means that one broke and got replaced ...)
I have a Zuca with the light blue denim insert, inside:
Jackson Classique skates - size 9, sadly these are white
One fluffy pastel blue ice halo
Pair of royal blue gloves
Pair of wristguards
Pair light blue soakers + towel (from skaterslanding)
Pair teal guards (replacing the pastel blue/white glitter ones that I left at the rink :'()
Pack of tissues (not blue)
Water bottle with an accordion on it... ;D
Rink card - currently LOADED with ice time money. Merry Christmas!
Spares of: hairties, skating socks and girly things.
That is it. After today's tumble I'm thinking of adding some foils of paracetamol or ibuprofen. Possibly some gin too. :o
My daughter is about to take up skating and she is eyeing off my Zuca. It's mine, all mine. She can make do with the backpack the rink hands out.

I'm glad I saw this post because I made a few discoveries while taking inventory.
My bag is a black and white and pink Ju-Ju-Be diaper/tote bag that doesn't look anything like a diaper bag. Inside:
- Skates
- Purple terry soakers
- Pink glitter guards I offered to take off my daughter's hands because she got them as a gift and really wanted purple. I like pink but mostly just care a whole lot less.
- blue microfiber dollar store towel
- empty container of floss-picks for teeth (discovery #1, refilled!)
- expired rec card
- receipt for new rec card
- lip balm
- hand cream
- empty altoid tin
- one loose unused tissue
- two pairs of little girl socks (why, when they have their own zucas? I don't know.)
- one pair of big girl socks
- yoga pants
- jacket with gloves in pockets
- four CDs, two of each daughter's music. This is discovery #2 and I should probably let coach know I somehow went home yesterday with his discs and mine.
- One plastic jaw clip thingie attached to the bag handle
- Tums

I love this post hehe. :)
My bag is a big purse/tote type thing with some studs on the outside that my fiance's brother's girlfriend gave me for Christmas one year. It isn't quite right for me to wear in normal life, but i'm happy i can use it for my skates!

Oh, where, oh where, do I begin.

Sissors, Screwdriver? I'm scared :-P
I keep a screwdriver in my bag at all times.... mainly in case a screw on my blades comes loose, but it does come in handy when something on my bike (main mode of transportation to and from the rink) comes loose.
Volleyball elbow pads
Bill: How do those volleyball elbow pads work for you? I'm looking for elbow protection but don't like the armadillo-like pads offered for in-line skating. Do you find that the volleyball pads offer adequate protection?
I like them, and wear them always. They are are WalMart cheapies purchased a few years back. (Which reminds me, the elastic is wearing out, so I need to get more.)
They fit under my sweatshirt, and are a little bulky, but not bad. If I bend my elbows, they will show through the sweatshirt material.
However they have saved my hide on too many occasions to remember. I remember a fast, bad fall a few years back where I hit the ice so hard that I skinned my elbow even through the pads...
I can't imagine how badly I would have been injured without the pads.
Jackson Freestyle skates with whatever blades were screwed on at the factory--Ultima something or other, I can never remember.
soakers
hard guards
microfiber towel
pair of spare laces
bunga pads
Flexmeter wrist guards
small notebook and pen
neck lanyard with either laminated dance patterns or Moves elements, depending on whether or not my dancing partner is available ( tip of the hat to Bill S)
a granola bar for apres skating; only bother with this if skating a session 1.5 hours or longer. I'd include a chilled thermos containing a steadying G&T but it probably would go missing in action by the time I got off the ice.
Thanks Bill. I shall go forth and procure a pair. NB: my original post buried my reply amongst the photographs of your anatomy.

I really like the Mcdavid hex cell elbow pads. They are much more flexible than volleyball pads. I use volleyball pads for my knees, mainly because I couldn't find the Mcdavid pads locally in XXL. I found the elbow pads at Dicks Sporting Goods. I'm not sure of the model number and it isn't marked on my pads anywhere. I believe it is the 6515R.

I found the elbow pads at Dicks Sporting Goods. I'm not sure of the model number and it isn't marked on my pads anywhere. I believe it is the 6515R.

Those look interesting. I went on-line and see that McDavid has several different options for elbows plus lots of other protective gear. Thanks.
I'm reviving an old thread again.... ::>)
I use a Thule bag that I think is meant for skiing and snowboarding now, but I have a pretty used Zuca back in NY (pink frame and peacock insert) and even tried using my carryon Zuca here once to save my back. The Thule is pretty great actually, but it gets heavy when I tote Daughter's stuff also.
Skates: custom Harlicks (well, custom for someone else with wonderfully similar feet to mine.) Aspire blades.
Puffy silver to rainbow sequin guards that I finally am getting less self conscious about (had black or grey terry cloth before. The puffy padding helps in a back pack.)
Cotton chenille washcloth for a quick blade wipe, and a grey microfibre cloth for final drying.
Foot spray. Also Arm & Hammer boot spray. Gods help me its not enough. :'(
Edea guards. Love these.
A pretty, free, Turkish airlines zip bag with two pairs of spare laces, gel sleeves (that I don't actually use,) gel knee pads (yet to be used,) a pair of Edea gloves (that now that I finally used Do Not work with my phone >:( I definitely misread about that.)
Some other free airline zip bag with tea tree oil, a fancy tin of band aids, and Nexcare tape. Oh, and cut bits of gel padding stuff. Both zip bags could be left home since I never use their stuff, but... just in case!
Water, glasses, and sometimes a snack.
Hand sanitiser, a pack of spare masks, handkerchief, breath mints, GasEx, and migraine medication.
Several pairs of Mondor skate socks. (Planning to try Thinnies too some time now that I heard of them.)
When Daughter skates add her Roces adjustable recreational things that I had to get since her feet were too small for better skates.
Puffy gold sequin soakers. She loves them. Matching sequin cloth that she oh so carefully wipes her blades with.
Tiny gloves.
So many snacks, drawing supplies, and more water.
I carry as little as I can, partly since had an extra light jacket that I really liked stolen at a rink. (In an upscale neighborhood at that.)
So no bag in the rink. Keys in a jacket pocket. If the session is at all crowded I might wear glasses to stop Covid containing spray, and carry lens cloth in the a zippered pocket.
If I might want a snack I carry it, or a little cash, in a jacket pocket too.
My only bag - a mesh shopping bag - is in my car. Sometimes it carries hand sharpening tools. Also first aid stuff (paper first aid tape and cloth first aid tape in case of bleed-through of the paper tape - though I haven't needed them in a long time. I sometimes keep a boot stretching tool there too.
I drink water while in the car. I'm mostly not athletic enough to need more. But sometimes I carry a cheap water bottle into the rink with me. I carry my shoes - though sometimes I just bring cheap flip flops into the rink, so they can't steal my shoes there.
Skates
Soakers
Skate guards
Towel or washcloth to dry blades with
Knee and elbow pads
Socks (if I've worn sandals to the rink in summer)
Gloves
Earwarmer headband
My skating journal (where I have some exercises written down to consult)
As above, valuables don't go with me. Sometimes I'll have a whole backpack I bring in; sometimes backpack stays in car (trunk) and a smaller bag has come in with me. These days it's usually the whole backpack; the smaller bag doesn't hold any less, after all.
When I was twelve my skate bag was actually my old two ball bowling bag that I ripped the ball partition out of. Worked relatively well, mainly because my dad wouldn't buy me a Züca.
Inside that bag was...
Riedell skates (can't remember the model)
Soakers a skating mom made for all of us
One blue and one silver hard guard (Dallas Cowboys baby!)
A pair of junior sized golf rain gloves (I liked these better than regular knit gloves)
Large University of Hawaii golf towel for drying skates
Extra pair of sneakers in the shoe pocket (once forgot my shoes at the rink and had to explain that to my mom, thank goodness in HI there was a KMart across the street from the rink)
Money for food and emergencies
Random program CD'S
My best friend's house key and her practice wrap skirt (she got that back before I moved)
Now I'm 28 and about to start taking skating classes again.... I FINALLY GOT THE ZÜCA BAG!!! Just ordered it tonight...
In that there will be...
Jackson Freestyles
Howie's soakers
Purple glitter hard guards
Probably one of the five gazillion bowling towels I don't use (pro tour freebies are awesome)
Reusable Gatorade bottle and the drink concentrate pods
Practice socks and performing socks
Fabric tape, benzoin tincture and q tips
Probably crash pads and a pair of compression shorts to hold them on
And whatever ends up in my pockets after leaving work, usually x washers and pins, screws and my flashlight...
Second Pair of Gloves
Second Pair of Socks
Extra Knit Cap
Hand Warmers
Leg Warmers
Bunga Pads
Speed Jump Rope
2x Resistance Bands
Extra Shirt
Normal and Microfibre Towel
Tissue
Lip Balm
Tripods for Smartphone Recording
Wireless Headphones
2nd Phone for Rink Recording and Music
Blade Guards
Hand Sanitizer
2x Muscle Rollers
Athletic Tape
Neosporin
Mouth Guard
Bottle for Hydration
[Sometimes] Hair Dryer to warm up my boots
During Summer: Extra T-Shirt. I don't like going home in something I've sweated in.
More and More, I've been leaving my Zuka behind and just bringing the duffel and my skates. At some rinks I always bring the Zuka to sit on, though (and because I know less people and don't leave as many things lying out).
Wow Nate, if you add more, you may have to graduate to a large hockey bag. :) (Not serious, just kidding.)
On a more serious note, some of that sounds more like the amount I would want on a backpacking trip into the back country. Or a sea kayak camping trip (where people sometimes carry everything including the kitchen sink).
I now usually just carry the skates in one hand (by the blade guards), and a large bottle of water. But I have a little more in my coat pocket. Usually my wallet & keys - the wallet so if someone breaks into my car, they won't get it - but it throws my weight off a little. But if I get back to memorizing a sequence (e.g., a pattern dance), I will carry a copy of the pattern. I'm confident enough that I won't hurt myself that first aid supplies are optional.
Sometimes I leave stuff behind. It depends on need, but if I'm going to one of the further rinks - where I tend to jump more doubles and have more intense lessons - I bring most of that stuff because there is no point in warming up at home if I will be sitting in a car for 60-90 minutes to drive to the rink. And I tend to prefer to change out of sweaty layers between sessions when I take breaks, and before I leave to go home.
It all fits easily in a small duffel bag. I have a Zuca with one of those little Zuca Lunch Pouches for my Skates/Snacks, etc.
For the close rinks, I tend to warm up and stretch at home which allows me to often leave stuff behind.
Things like patterns I just have as PDFs on my phone for reference. I tried bringing an iPad, but it's too bulky and redundant so I gave up on that. I just use a phone, instead.
