This is a takeoff on the Food Network's "What's the best thing you ever ate?" show. It might the pond you loved as a child, the rink where you skated your best-ever program, the rink you shared with a famous skater, or the place where you had the most fun with friends.
Where is the best place you've ever skated?
For me, Ice World in Totowa, NJ was the best rink, especially after they added the second sheet of ice. I spent hours there with my skating friends. It wasn't too expensive and the staff was friendly and competent. They had a weekday evening public session (8-10pm) where they served wine and cheese during the ice cut, lol. After the session, our crowd would go across the road to the Calico Kitchen and eat, talk and hang out until the wee hours of the morning.
It's a distribution center now, sadly, but the memories I'll have forever.
The best ICE I have ever skated on was at the Olympic training center in SLC - the rinks that they built for practice for the 2002 Olympics. I think this is where Adult Nationals will be this year - GREAT ICE!
My favorite place to skate however is the Pilgrim Recreation Center in Hingham, MA - they have two sheets of ice plus a studio rink and a great group of ice-dancers that skate mid-day - definitely my favorite place/group/situation EVER.
I miss those people and the rinks as well. Very nice.
Best Ice--EVER!
Aspen Adult Skate Camp.......oooh, ice like satin.....I mean you just wanted to make a bridal dress out of it, it was so smooth, and at figure skating temp too, not hockey ice at all.
1980 Rink in Placid. The sheer awe of being there was almost overwhelming. Also, landing my first 2S ever while there didn't hurt.
Dortmund/Germany, if you are ever near it, don't miss to try it!!
