Diagonal Cut Blades?
« on: September 09, 2022, 05:13:24 PM »
I was just researching new blades, and checking out the Jackson options. I understand the straight cut and cross cut pick options, and the 7" or 8" rockers, but was wondering what they meant by diagonal cut. Could anyone explain please?

Diagonal is a cross-cut "descriptor" that only Ultima uses; the spacing and size of the top/bottom picks are the difference.

This video shows the Protege XP toe rake: https://youtu.be/8oRWWYzAwNA?t=14
You can see that the top and bottom picks are a little larger, there's some difference in the spacing.  It reminds me of a Pattern 99 blade with those huge top/bottom picks.

Here's a different video that shows the Legacy 8/7 blades: https://youtu.be/Mfnf-r_vRpM?t=18
The toe picks are evenly spaced and the top/bottom are only slightly larger.  It's similar to a JW Gold Seal in terms of how the toe picks are spaced and sized.

I came across this nice blade explanation page on the web and thought it would be nice to look at for reference.  They explain a lot of the terms, but not the "Diagonal Cross-Cut" concept, sorry.

I like the infographic, too: https://iceskatingpassion.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Criteria-choose-best-blades-figure-skate-512x1024.jpg
